Hitter vs Pitchers-2000's --Congrats to.......

PostSat Mar 06, 2021 9:18 pm

Be part of the league that helps to determine if exceptional pitching overcomes exceptional hitting or if a lineup of dominant hitters will prevail against an all-star caliber rotation/bullpen. This league will test that premise by setting up 6 teams which will emphasize hitting while the other 6 teams will emphasize pitching.

Previous results: 90’s: Hitting centric teams won the season series but a pitching centric team won the championship.

70s: The pitching centric teams won the season series and a pitching centric team claimed the championship

80s: The hitting centric teams won 60% of games versus pitching centric teams. Two hitting teams won more than 100 games but both were stunned in the first round of the playoffs. A hitting team which won the wild card won the championship

Note—the rules are quite detailed---if you'd prefer an abbreviated version summarizing key rules—those follow

Abbreviated rules begin
To assist you summarizing the key rules of the league, I've put together the following---these do not replace the longer version but provide an overview of the key things to know.

$100 million salary cap---2000s player set----DH will be used

6 hitting centric teams--4 in east, other 2 in central
6 pitching centric teams--4 in west--other 2 in central
Hitting teams: Maximum value of pitchers is $2.5 million with exception of one starting pitcher from predefined list
Pitching teams: Maximum value of hitters is $3.5 million with exception of one hitter from predefined list

Stadiums--Unique--
Hitting teams will play in stadium from predefined list which help hitters
Pitching teams will play in stadium from predefined list which help pitchers

You will know the stadium for your team/other teams before drafting players

Division assignment based on randomizer run after league is full

12 player "dispersal" draft--the 6 starting pitchers (for hitting teams) and 6 outfielders (for pitching teams) held on message board. After that, a two round draft on message boards for eligible players for your type of team. Remainder of roster filled via autodraft.

End of abbreviated rules
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The basics:

Decade: 2000s

$100,000,000 salary cap

Roster size—normal SOM rules

Drop Penalty-Standard

Designated Hitter: Yes

Trades; Allowed provided the rules regarding maximum values are followed.

When you sign up, indicate if you would prefer to lead a “hitters” or “pitcher” team.

Stadiums: You will know the ballparks for yourself and all teams prior to the draft. Unique stadiums will be used and only the following stadiums are eligible for selection.

The stadiums available to the owners of the pitchers and hitters are listed below. These are the only stadiums that can be selected for use. The numbers appearing after the stadium name is a summary of the 4 components of the stadium ratings. Owners are free to select the stadium of their choice for their type of team. There are 8 eligible parks for the pitching centric teams and 7 eligible parks for the hitting centric teams.

Hitting centric

Coors Field 75
The Ballpark at Arlington 56
Bank One Ballpark 52
Citizens Bank Ballpark 44
Fenway Park 41
US Cellular Field 41
Kaufmann Stadium 40

Pitching Centric:

Petco Park 7
Safeco Field 22
Pro Player Stadium 22
Metrodome 22
Jacob’s Field 24
Dodger Stadium 24
Busch Stadium 24

Division structure

The 4 in the East and 2 in the Central will be “hitting” centric

The other 6 teams-2 in the Central and 4 in the west will be pitching centric

Roster rules:

Hitting centric teams:

The maximum value of any starting or relief pitcher is $2,500,000 with the exception of the six players referenced below.

The Hitting team must use 3 roster spots for hitters with salaries of $1,000,000 or less. These players cannot be dropped once the season begins—they must remain rostered for the entire season.

Pitching centric teams:

The maximum value of any hitter is $3,500,000 with the exception of the players available in the dispersal draft referenced below.

The Pitching team must use 2 roster spots for pitchers with salaries of $1,000,000 or less. These players cannot be dropped once the season begins—they must remain rostered for the entire season.

12 player dispersal draft—6 starting pitchers; 6 outfielders

The player draft will be held after stadiums are selected. The owners of these players do not have to carry the players all season and can be traded subject to league salary rules.

The following six hitters will be available to the pitching centric teams despite their salaries being more than $3,500,000

Edgar Martinez
Frank Thomas
Prince Fielder
Adam Dunn
Rafael Palmeiro
Ryan Klesko

The following six starting pitchers will be available to the hitting centric teams despite their salaries being more than $2,500,000. The six are:

Jarrod Washburn
Russ Ortiz
Brad Radke
Chuck Finley
Aaron Harang
Bronson Arroyo

Once the league if full, we will run three randomizers—one for the hitting centric teams and a second for the pitcher centric teams. These randomizer will be used to establish the placement of teams in the divisions and the stadium draft order as well as the dispersal draft—all owners will participate in that draft.

Hitting centric teams—division assignment and stadium draft

Based on the randomizer, the first 4 hitting centric teams will be placed in the East. The next two will be part of the Central.

Pitching centric teams—division assignment, stadium and player dispersal draft

Based on the randomizer, the first 4 pitching centric teams will be placed in the West while the remaining two teams will become part of the Central. This randomizer will also determine the order of the 12 player dispersal draft and the draft order for stadiums.

For the stadium draft, the team we will use the 1-6 order.

Dispersal draft for the 6 outfielders/6 starting pitchers

For the dispersal draft player selection, the draft order will be the reverse of the stadium draft order—the teams getting the sixth slot (assigned to the Central) will get the first selection for the hitting centric and pitching centric teams in the dispersal draft with the team with the 5th choice of stadium (also in Central) getting the second choice of players and so on. That draft will be held on the message board after the league is full.

After the stadium and two round dispersal draft, the third randomizer will be run to establish the draft order for eligible players.

Player draft-all teams participate
We will hold a two round draft-snake style draft of players eligible for your type of team. After that, we will use the auto-draft function to complete rosters. If you are assigned a player that is not eligible for your team, please release the player before the season starts.

As the tournament winds down, I suspect there will be more players looking for an unique league---5 to go!
