tanking/league integrity

PostSat Mar 20, 2021 10:06 pm

Just noticed that a team in a $200 league I'm in has spent less than $140 on their roster and is 5-28. Annoying, but is there anything to be done? Will Strat intervene in such a situation to spend the rest of their money?

I originally assumed it was someone who drafted the team and never checked back in but I just noticed they've actually made moves since the season began. Very strange.

SOM doesn't track leagues for irregularities. Let them know about your concern here:

I think in tournaments anything under 90% in a 80 million league would get you tossed. Not sure if there is any formal rule in other leagues. And there might be more leniency in a 200 million league. But 70% of max sounds very problematic.

Has anyone reached out to the manager ? I see its only his 3rd team overall and his first ATG 9 team. It may be he is unaware of the ripple effect his poor team has on the league.

Did you check and make sure the league did not allow a manager to have more than one team?
I doubt this manager could be unaware on the impact this has on league.
Prior to my vacation the last year Strat would intervene and take over such a team.

Yeah the league doesn't allow multiple teams. https://365.strat-o-matic.com/league/453852

Sent out a message to the league flagging the issue but no response from the owner in question. Will try contacting Strat now.

My first few teams I had no idea what I was doing, so when my teams were bad, I'd do whatever I could to try and get them better, even if that meant dropping players like crazy. Obviously, that's a poor strategy, but if this manager is just inexperienced and trying to stay afloat, I don't think they should be penalized severely for it.

The 70% drop in cap seems excessive, but I don't think we should be accusing someone this green of tanking. Someone should reach out to this manager privately and see if they need any pointers. That was a big help for me years ago when I started playing online. (I was also 12 or so years old at the time, but that's not entirely the point!)

The 70% isn't from dropping too many players though. They have the money sitting there, they're just not spending it.
