The Term "Weaseled" to Mean "My Draft Pick Was Taken"

PostSun Mar 21, 2021 2:13 pm

I’ve been in SOM leagues with a group of guys since 2003. Guys have come and gone over the years, but the core group has remained. We routinely use the term “weaseled” with a very specific meaning: “I was weaseled” = “A player I had queued up was selected by someone ahead of me in the draft.” (To be “officially” weaseled means the top player in your draft queue was selected by person immediately ahead of you in the draft.)

This terminology has spilled into other fantasy sports leagues I have been in with some of these guys and by now is so second-nature to me I had assumed it was widespread among participants in fantasy/simulated sports leagues. I can’t recall any instances of anyone new joining a league I was in and asking, “What do you mean by being weaseled?” I tried to Google to find an example of someone using this term in this way, however, and did not come up with anything. So now I am maybe thinking that this is an idiosyncrasy of my group.

I just thought I would post here to see if other people use this term.

No, I avoid anything to do with Pauly Shore. He ruined '"weasel" for me.

I have used the term weaseled since well before Pauly Shore made his unwarranted rise to fame.

The term weasel has been used here for many years in that meaning.

Here's a quote from Treyomo on the ATG message boards in 2016

... many leagues with him back in the 2am frenzy days, and had many live drafts with Kevin, PJ, and Munich Man (Rick) where Kev would somehow always weasel my next pick about two slots ahead of me. As we speak, he's probably weaseling his way into St. Peter's slot, leaving Ol' Pete sitting there ...

I've been in many leagues and drafts with Al Hogg.
In the dictionary next to "Weasel" is a picture of Al Hogg!! King of Weasels if you will.

I've been discussing it with some other guys in my long-term league and we think it might have stemmed from Meat posting a photo of the Mothers of Invention album "Weasels Ripped My Flesh" in a draft thread, probably during my first year of playing SOM back in 2003.
