These drafts have been excellent. Thanks to Terry and Sean for all the hard work.
Thanks, Bigmahon. I appreciate that.
I know I was probably a little sensitive toward you, Joker, because I've put a lot of time and effort, along with Terry, to make the draft work.
It's a unique format, and this is our first draft following a season, with compensatory picks. And with that came a few snags, which I think we worked through well.
I do take issue with managers being perpetually late and making no effort to place proxies. I don't think it is fair to all the other managers. I think we all have responsibility to each other to be timely in our picks. The simple punishment of missing your turn and picking late isn't a fair way of handling it, in my opinion. But we can discuss that if anyone has better ideas.
I would like to know, from anyone who has ideas, your thoughts on what we can do better. I'm sure Terry would agree with me that if something makes sense and makes it easier, we're all for it. So please, use this thread to place any ideas at all, big, small, good, bad ... this is a whiteboard for next year's draft.
I'm certain that many managers think an available players list would be helpful. That is something we can look at and discuss. I keep my own personal list for every keeper league I'm in. I'm in 5 drafts right now and I'm maintaining 5 lists. If in the future we want to do that, we can provide it.
If folks will PM their emails and or cell numbers to me or Terry, I'll email what I have (I know it's late in the draft, but it may still provide some value --- if you can understand my engineer's mind and decipher the sheet).
I've given my cell phone out to several managers and offered to receive proxies, research player availability for them, give them "best available" at a certain position -- all in an effort to make it easier for those who seem to struggle to get their picks in. But there is a level at some point where each manager is responsible for getting his picks on the board. I'll help whenever I can, but ultimately if you miss your pick or you pick a player already rostered, it's on you.
The "command F" function allows you to type in any player's name and see if they are on a roster in the rosters tab on the google sheet. You can use command F on the draft tab too, to see if a player has been drafted.
I've tried to check every player being selected as I enter them onto the draft tab and into the roster tab. I check to make sure they are not already rostered, that they are in the right league, that their name is properly spelled, and that I put them at their primary position on your roster. I know I missed a duplicate of Ozzie Albies. I apologize I missed it - but I can't be the only set of eyes. If you all can watch the picks as they're posted and make sure it's not someone on your roster, that's a huge help.
What else is it that we can do to make it run like clockwork next year? Let's talk about it now, see if we can implement on the latter part of this draft, and make it better. I will help in any way I possibly can.
Thanks, and I apologize for any errors on my behalf, and I apologize for being defensive earlier. Happy holiday to all.
Sean
