Strikeouts

PostSat Apr 24, 2021 4:04 pm

For me, the way I could always judge if a starting pitcher was "really good" at striking people out was more Ks than IP. But that measure is no longer valid if the league average is more than 1K per IP. I was looking at the 2021 team stats this morning, and only five teams COL 145 K / 165 IP , DET 152 K / 171 IP , SEA 161 K / 174 IP , ARI 168 K / 179 IP , OAK 168 K / 177 IP are below that standard of excellence.

I love baseball, BUT I don't enjoy watching what amounts to the pitcher and catcher playing a high velocity game of "catch" for nine innings (or seven if it's a twin bill).

Agreed, but don't know what to do about it. The game has turned into a match of 3 true outcomes, and that's getting boring.

Most guys in the pen can throw 95+ and SP's are barely making it out of the 5th or 6th before the blow torches come in and lay waste to the other team.

Or, maybe I'm bitter because I am Tiger fan and they strike out a jillion times a game. :-)

True...which makes Nick Madrigal's 2ks in 64 PAs a pretty amazing acconplishment.

Otherwise, we could go back to cricket-like bats circa 1885...

Or watch Miguel Sano strike out 20 times in 45 ABs
