Question for mystery league experts

New to mystery leagues- Do the top players normally keep some cash on hand to make changes- and if so how much?

I try to select players that are a good value for their salary, but I don't think much about cash on hand. If someone cuts a player that I want to pick up, I can always cut a player from my roster to raise the cash needed. Cash-on-hand is nice to have but it isn't as important as having great players. So, my advice to new players is not to worry about cash-on-hand and focus on figuring out the year of each player and cutting the players that are on bad years.

At the beginning of the season, flat no. use all your money even if it means having extra players.

At around game 42 or 81 I might drop a player or two without getting a new player (and keep cash on hand) if I am still unsure about a player or two. For example if I dont need to spend that money to fill a position but, I think there is a decent chance that my, for example C, 3B and LF are in good years-ut maybe not, I might wait to see where I want to spend that cash for after I determine which of those 3 players are in bad years.

You want to make sure you dump any players you are pretty sure are in bad years before the drop penalty increases, but you might not know exactly what you need at that time.

But, at the start of the year, spend your money.

As I said above, franky and Adam’s advice is excellent, and I agree with it completely. However, there is one more thing to keep in mind that I learned the hard way...

When you do your initial draft, don’t select the minimum number of players. So, if you’re required to draft 24, be sure to pick 25. Why? Let’s say you have bad luck in the autodraft and you are blessed with the first waiver pick. And there is a high-priced, coveted superstar waiting for you to pick at number one. Having one extra player lets you cut somebody before waivers to free up enough cash to place a waiver claim on your man. By having that extra player, you don't need to (nor want to) stockpile extra cash going into the waiver period.

It’s fine to have the minimum number of players once the season starts. Just be sure to have one extra player going into the preseason.
