It worked! :). JK.

Nice to meet you. I lived in O'Fallon IL, a quasi-exburb of St Louis for two years...used to volunteer at the Cards and Blues games. What a great sports town.

Hope you are indeed employed, so you can keep playing strat and apparently beating up on others on the field. I think we are in the same r2 BS tour league.

Good luck to you--having a Cubs fan in the house ain't what it used to be.
Oh and yeah good luck with everything else too. ;)

She's 12 now and starting to move on a little bit from ol' grampa, but these last years have been amazing, and I'm so glad she lives nearby and I get to see her often. That's about it, but I do want to mention in closing that my wife was nothing short of saintly in her forbearance while I obsessed and agonized daily over the recently completed Barnstormers finals league.

Hi Sean--sorry about the finals as I guess losing the big enchilada makes runner-up feel like a distant second, but I wouldn't know, so all I know is it was an impressive run. I guess the only bad thing for you with the wife otherwise is that you were starting a new tour right when your season ended, to agonize some more.

Granddaughter like a little brother--that's indeed a bit of fortune to cherish.

Cheers and congrats again.

As you can tell from moniker i'm jeff mueller, live in West Tennessee. Grew up SE of St. Louis in Monroe County. Cardinals fan. (An aside: Rincon had talent, but was hit on arm by a line drive from Phil Garner. Never the same. It's amazing how many good athletes are taken out by injury. Sometimes it seems an all time great's biggest asset is avoiding major injuries).

I grew up raising hogs and doing farm work. Did a stint in Air Force (looks like several of us here were airmen), com/nav specialist. Earned a B.A. and M.A. in Economics. Taught for a bit, realized i didn't want to get a PhD in it, didn't like academic publication (99% of them are never read and a total waste of resources), and went for a law degree. Did two years as public defender (loved trial work), then my own practice, and now judge as well.

Married for 12 years. Two stepchildren, one of my own. Family brings everything into perspective. Other aspects of life pale in comparison.

I played SOM as a kid. Enjoyed playing with three friends in graduate school. We would take the cards from a MLB division, do snake drafts, and play 30 or 42 game seasons. Lots of fun. I started SOM online around ATG VI, have played a few other sets. I like ATG best. Higher caps introduce more luck and i like that challenge. I like franchise leagues and other odd leagues. Live drafts are intense and loads of fun. I've played Avalon Hill games, D&D, Magic Gathering, various board games. My son is getting into many games now. It's good to play with him. He and i just put in a huge garden in the evenings this week.

I really like this thread and the last one from a few years ago. Thought i'd contribute. It's a real good group of people here.

Yeah, I'm not totally against the Cubs. I'm actually glad they won the championship in 2016 (so their fans could finally complaining about the curse). Besides, they have had some very good teams in the past. Take a close look at my round 2 BS tour team and you'll see what I mean.

I have noticed that the very successful SOM players have introduced themselves. I am just an average player but thought I would jump in. Maybe a few more of us will add their info as well. My name is Rick and I was born, raised and live in Texas. I have loved baseball since I was 8 which is almost 60 years. I starting playing SOM when I was 12. I had no one else to play with so I played 1000’s of games by myself. I also kept score. I recently found some old cards and scoresheets in the attic which reminded me of the many hours spent with this game. I played baseball and was not bad. I was successful through the Jr. College level. I transferred my Jr year to the University of Texas at Austin. I discovered that there were 2 younger second basemen better than I was, so I figured it was time to get a degree. The Longhorns won the National Championship without me. I proceeded to work for a large Corporation for 30+ years and Coach competitive youth baseball for 25+ years. I was fortunate enough to Coach 3 major leaguers, one of them now has an $8+ Million card in All-Time Greats. I have never drafted him but I will soon. I rediscovered SOM when my son took me to Cooperstown. It was one of the greatest vacations of my life. SOM was in a display at the HOF so I checked into it. I was ecstatic to see the on-line game existed and I am grateful to play it again. I will never complain about anything because I am just happy to be here. I have appreciated the help from many of you guys, one in particular who I will not embarrass. I have improved and I am hoping to become even more competitive (although I was recently swept by RiggoDrill). That’s it.

That was a fun read in meeting you Rick, thanks for sharing it!
Besides the intrigue of which major leaguer has the ATG card, you reminded me of the first time I learned about the online version of the game, when I had also long since packed away the cards and dice. Great moment.

Seems you are doing pretty well in the top 20 of the tour, so I wouldn't worry about the sweep--he does that to a lot of people ;)

Cheers!

Excellent guess Bigmahon…Knoblauch is a great Texas kid but he is not the one. I guess I will narrow the field a bit…the player I coached actually has a $9+ million card. He had a pretty nice season. And thanks FrankieT for the encouragement. Hopefully I can stay in the hunt for a playoff spot.

I'll give it a go.

My name is Darin, and I go by visick here. (part of my last name)
I'm 54, divorced with 2 teenagers. Originally from Brooklyn, NY I call Huntington Beach, CA home now. Moved out to California in 1990.
What brought me out was chiropractic school. I graduated in 1994 and have been practicing since 1995. I couldn't see myself doing anything else, as I've yet to call it work.
I graduated from Hofstra University(NY) in 1988, where I played football and rugby. I loved rugby so much, that I wound up playing another 15 years or so after graduating.
My buddy from college is Frank M, here on Strat. We met the 2nd or 3rd day of classes in 1984 and have been friends ever since.
I use to play the board game on my stoop (front steps)as a kid. Playing as the Mets in the 70's truly sucked, since well... the Mets sucked.
