theme teams--all time Red Sox

PostTue May 18, 2021 2:07 pm

So I have been playing enough now that creating theme teams has become something I am doing more and more. I have had some success with an all time Expos team and an all time A's team, but the team for whom I have tried this the most has been the Red Sox. And, those teams almost universally under-perform (stunning correlation to their pre 2004 history).

Has anyone had success doing that with them? My next attempt is going to be pitching/defense/speed (limited options there) focused. The big right handed bats have just not been cutting it (I mean, the GIDP's are off the charts).

I have one with an 80m cap expansion era. It's moving up the ladder after I dropped pitching in favor of hitting.

Interesting--thanks for sharing. I had considered putting much of my pitching dollars into the bullpen similar to what you've done here. Have you ever tried '99 Pedro as a super reliever? Not sure if he would pitch enough innings for it to be worthwhile.

JD and Manny are two almost must haves for their production and cost, and suddenly Felix Mantilla seems to be a bit of a bargain in an 80m DH league.

My latest version. First time I have had Betts:

I had Pedro doing just that, but HAL refused to cooperate and I ended up dropping him and Clemens for bats.

This league is an expansion year league, but for some reason excludes 67 and 68, starting with 1969 as eligible years.

The team I posted about that has Betts started 11-5, and now has lost eight in a row.

Thanks for sharing--That's a great looking squad. Should mention I typically play $80m cap, so either have to pick a strong hitting or strong pitching club. I think my next club will use '99 Fenway (the most pitcher friendly of all of the Fenways) with about $50-55m dedicated to the pitching staff.

I've found Fenway71 to work the best with Red Sox teams, maxing Petro, Rice, Fisk, and Evans.

This most recent addition I have is playing there.
