Thoughts on the 2000s?

PostWed Feb 03, 2021 7:52 am

I haven't been playing much lately, but I'm considering having a go at the new 2000 game.

What do you all think of it? Better or worse than the 90s?

The only thing really holding me back from playing is that I really dont want to click through the majority of the players and study their cards. It's a lot to go through, but I'll do it if folks are saying it's worth it.

It's a really fun set in my opinion. So many players to choose from, more than any other Mystery set by far! So if you have an unlucky draft you can still fix your team. I think it is really fun. Best of luck!

Pitching? What pitching?

One auto league that I'm in, it's been a slugfest. League ERA is 4.99

Completely unscientific opinion - it feels like there are more players that you can't identify the card via injury.
Way too many HR for my taste.
There may be more players in this set, but you can still miss on most of your replacements (like my experience so far) and wind up the worst team in the league despite getting the good Mora. So far in this league it seems like none of the high priced players have panned out except for Pedro

No pitching - 1 team under 4.36 era 4.90 league average, top era is 2.87

I'm luke warm on the 2000 set so far. Too many HRs. Very little pitching. Even players with decent/average pitching cards are performing poorly. I suppose a few more leagues and more experience/study of the results, but right now it is my least favorite of the Mystery sets.

I am liking the 2000s much better than I thought I would since the 90s set is my least favorite. I've seen some good pitching teams in the 2000s game.

I agree with those who say that the pitching seems pretty terrible. After 108 games the ERA in my league is 5.13.

Similar to the 1990's set, most of the injuries are from HBP, making it more difficult to guess the mystery year in contrast to the 60s,70s, and 80s. This makes me think this is by design rather than an oversight, although I'm not sure why someone thought this was the right thing to do for the 90's and 00s, but not the 60s, 70s, and 80s.

No pitching- Very few SP stoppers
Injuries are mostly on HBP which neutralizes Mystery Card feature
Too many HR
Too many players....

I completely agree with the Injury comment. Extremely frustrating.
I also agree that there are too many players, but only if you're playing a 12 team league with a high salary cap. It's perfect for a 24-team league, or in a league with a cap of 80M or less. There are some real nice bargain players to be had. Playing a 12-team league with an inflated salary cap would be more like ATG, where everyone has an all-star team.
One more observation, there's a real lack of quality LHSP.
