Re: Hitter vs Pitchers-2000's style--2 round draft underway

I suspect all owners are busy studying your roster as well as others in the league.

Just a few reminders---before the season starts, please be sure to identify the $1 million dollar or less players who will be with your team all season. Hitting centric clubs need to have 3 position players with salaries of $1 million or less while pitching centric teams will need to carry 2 pitchers with salaries of $1 million or less. Please post your designated players either via a league wide e-mail or posting here.

You can have more than the prescribed number of low salary players and are free to make changes to those who were not identified as your "season long keepers".

Happy roster making decisions----and enjoy the prospect of facing a lineup including:

Barry Bonds
Jim Thome
Miguel Cabrera
Ryan Howard
Miguel Tejada
Andrew Jones
Jeff Kent
Mike Piazza

or a pitching staff in Petco of

Pedro Martinez
Chris Carpenter
Matt Cain
Adam Wainwright

Or a visit to Busch Stadium
And facing……..

a seventh inning of Trevor Hoffman
Eighth inning of Billy Wagner
Ninth inning of Mariano Rivera

Busch Banditos < $1.00 pitchers will be Mike Maroth and Ricardo Rincon. *Subject to pre-season changes.

Is there a minimum appearance requirement for these players? It feels against the spirit of the rule to just have 2 starters who will accrue a total of 0 innings.

I went back and reviewed the rosters of each hitting team for the leagues of the 70s, 80s and 90s. There were 18 hitting centric teams. There was only one instance of a pitcher who was rostered all season but failed to pitch a single inning--that was Tim Lollar in the 80s version of the game. Tim played for the last place team in the hitting division (East).

What we have observed is that the pitching is so challenged by the hitters that it's worth taking a chance to see if the pitcher is on their decent year.

We haven't seen managers deploy the this guy will sit all season strategy but I'm open to other ideas on this one if there is a consensus of concern.

I think minimum innings / ABs would be hard to police so I vote we just keep it that we require that the players be rostered all season, and if someone wants to stash SPs that get zero innings well at least they are wasting the roster spots and the money on them. I don't think it gives them an advantage over someone using these spots for players that can serve an actual role off the bench / in the bullpen.

A very impressive display of offensive firepower.
