Nev,

So what is a 4-10 based on the pitchers card? Based on this reading it would appear to be a ball park single rating (dark triangle) and you were playing in a 1-6 park. If that is the case, then the obviously strange thing here is how did he get a double. Another thought without knowing the pitcher rating was this was an "open triangle" rating that provided a double/single outcome but that doesn't seem likely.

I have some thoughts that this might be some of the computer enhancements behind the scene, but can't make a final determination without knowing the actual card reading from the pitcher.

Wells noticed that Cobb was having a snack. By the time he set down his hot dog, Wells was able to reach second.

Nev,

So everything about that roll says it was a ball park single on a 1-6. In face to face game play there would be no other event that could possibly happen that would turn that into a double. In the computer version of the game there are several strategies and "enhancements" that could be at work, but it sounds most like the following max rule:

Doubles/Triples options - According to SOM, they feel it is a little too easy to get triples in the C&D game. So triples may turn into doubles. In addition ballparks has double/triple ratings (similar to the C&D game's singles/HRs rating). Finally, Guard Lines become a defensive option, which adds depth to defense management.

I couldn't find anything about the current version we are playing to know which max rules are in play and which aren't. I know we have had issues in the past with rules turned on when we were told they weren't (i.e. normalization), thanks to Treyomo for proving that one. So my guess is that one of the tweaks that occurs behind the scenes with max rules was at play. l have been looking through box scores and never been able to find evidence of that actually occurring, so its interesting if true.

From the maximum rule on More Baserunning Decisions

Using this option allows for more baserunning decisions because it does not follow the board game rules for baserunning. For instance, using this option you will often be asked if you wish to send a runner from first to third on a Single* or a Single** reading. In the board game Single* means a single with runners advancing one base and Single** means a single with runners advancing two bases (it is automatic in both cases, no option exists).

This option also allows certain basehits to be stretched. For instance, some singles will have an option to be stretched into a double, some doubles to triples and some triples to inside the park homeruns!
