The monthly contests are chosen so people will do theme teams at least (if not entire leagues). They are trying to get you to play more teams/ leagues.

Personally, I think it's a scam. Now if it wasn't just a ploy to get you to play more teams, they would have contests that made a little bit of sense, like player with most hits, HRs, Saves, wins etc....

But because it is ALWAYS a dumb team goal, they are just tricking people into playing more teams...

Who cares about team stats other than wins. It should be an individual goal, like player with most; HRs , batting average, E.R.A., etc....... When was the last time ESPN opened a show by saying, " The Cubs have turned the most double plays on the year..."?... ..

Wouldn't " player with most....... ", be a lot more exciting and it wouldn't require you to build your whole team around their random meaningless TEAM STAT.

Otherwise you have to build your whole team around their dumb little contest, which is at least a THEME team, if not a theme league. No thanks.

Want more proof that theme leagues don't belong in the record books or monthly contests.

11 out of the 12 teams in the Chicks Dig the Long Ball theme league are in the top 40 of the August Walks contest including 8 of the top 24 teams. One third of the top 24 teams in the contest are from the same league.

Put another way, 91.7 percent of the league is in the top 40 teams. The next closest league I found had THREE teams. Which would be 25% of that league.

The bottom line is that it doesn't matter if you like the monthly contests or not, it's that theme leagues should NOT be allowed in them or the record books because their results are skewed badly by the limitations of their league.

You built your team to get on base, so did I.
Get over it and move on.

Not the point at all. And all I can say is check the scoreboard.

I don't know what your point is.
Is this month stolen bases?
Start a league with all crappy catchers.
No one cares.

The point is that there is a contest with prizes ( ) awarded and because of that people should not be eligible for the contest if they are allowed an unfair advantage.

Which is exactly the case in this situation, teams in a league where no pitcher over $1.00 should not be allowed in a contest that has anything to do with offensive production because the numbers are skewed so dramatically by the poor pitching.

The proof of the skewed numbers is there in the post for all to see 11 out of 12 teams showing up on the leader boards while none of the dozens or possibly hundreds of other leagues eligible for the contest had more than 3 teams show up on the leader boards.

Just as they are NOT allowed in the record books, they should also NOT be allowed in the monthly contests.

Now, if you don't care about the monthly contests, that is your choice.

And for that matter, if you don't care they why the heck even bother to chime in on this thread?

And YES, if there were a league with no minus hold pitchers or minus hold catchers allowed, then those teams should be excluded from a Stolen Base contest.

Cheating to win the monthly contests is a huge problem. Eliminate them or limit the number of times a person can win.

Despite my penchant for the Monthly Contests, I agree 100%. One prize per user id would make sense. If form holds for the August contest, I could potentially win the top 3 prizes and frankly that is stupid.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not an idiot, I'll take the freebies, but I totally agree with your suggestion.
