Worst OPS for an everyday player?

PostSat Oct 09, 2021 12:13 pm

I used the 1939 Frank Crosetti as my shortstop in a 140 league.

I got a great defensive season out of him, particularly for just barely a million dollars, and he even hit 12 home runs. But his .429 OPS has to be one of the absolute worst I have ever had for someone that put in 162 games. The most frustrating thing was that I picked up Rob Picciolo specifically so I would have an extra SS in case HAL wanted to hit for Crosetti (plus rodriguez could move over to SS), and to the best I can determine, he never once was pinch hit for the entire season. Wish there was a way to choose to pinch hit for someone more often as opposed to just the "don't pinch hit for vs" setting.

I have used the Crossiti card quite often although not sure I would use him in high cap leagues having said that no matter who is on bench he never gets pinch hit for even with game on the line

I don't understand that given that HAL doesn't seem to be scared to pinch hit in general. I wonder if the bulletproof designation affects HALs willingness to pull him. So many things I just don't understand about what's in HAL's mind.

Chris you made me go look at my stats. My Lowest ever OPS for a player who qualified for the batting title was actually in one of Andys subset groups (pre 1920 league). Rabbit Maranville posted a .600 OPs (and he did play in 162 games). My lowest with the whole ATG9 set was Eddie Stanky who posted a .633 mark (and set my personal records for lowest batting average and lowest slugging average). But he didn’t play in 162 games (he got 127j. Of the seven players I have had play all 162 games with the full ATG9 set. My Lowest oPS was Taylor Douthit who posted a .669 mark.

I had thought Devo White would have been my candidate for this, here's his worst on my last bunch of teams.

I looked at my past 80M ATG9 teams for the player with lowest OPS and it was Jiggs Donahue with a .573 OPS with 538 at bats. My team finished with the league lowest OPS at .669. Jiggs Donahue's backup, Phil Todt had a higher OPS at .590 with 141 at bats and was a better fielder. We still won the league championship. https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1638702

I used the same Crosetti card in Barnstormers 100 mill league and he was dead last in OPS at .464

https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1636092

did have 4 guys hit over 50 homers: Foster (75), Griffey (67), Mays (58), Cepeda (51)

Team went 86-76 in Fenway '71
