Just had a second team in a row lead the league in RUNS whilst finishing DEAD LAST in batting AVG. How did they do it? On Base Percentage ...

What I find incredible is the last 31 games of the season the team jumped up in scoring 1.1 runs per game to over 6.7 runs per game, leading to a 13 out of 14 wins to end season and make into playoffs after averaging 5.6 runs per game through the first 131 games. To start the season against basically the same teams went one under .500 averaging 5.7 runs. Of course this is mostly explained by no injuries the last 24 games of the year, for a team that was averaging .8 players out per game for the first 130 games. 158 games out of the highest OBP player in the league is very helpful. Then Jack Clark played 152. One of the best ways to win is to have 15 day injury guys play 150 games +

Bingo. Was on the outside looking in with 30 games to go and then by some miracle of HAL ended up winning top seed. Go figure.

Looks like Moneyball on display there. Destroyed your division (46-26), had a much better road record than home, and won your last 10. Pretty surprising, I’d think, especially considering that weak pitching staff. Talk about a gamble.:-)

Rich,
I was going to try to make a team using your OBP/walks strategy, but dang if you aren't already in that league...lol

this is the team I put together, mostly using Rich's team....

so far thru 12 games averaging 10.25 walks per game....9-3 record

highest scoring team so far, 2nd best run differential
