My understanding is that everything above the blank spot remains unchanged, but players below can be rearranged. I too have seen this done, and what I saw is that the trade off for having players play out of position (say, drafting three CF with zero additional outfielders) is that they were forced to bat 8 and 9.
It’s a clever, gimmicky move, but in a big player set it’s not like you can’t find outfielders to play the corners.
It may be a fun test of the game’s outer limits, but in the end I think it’s more of a
too clever by half thing.
