Question on CF playing other positions

PostWed Dec 22, 2021 11:20 am

So I noticed that Nomadbrad or someone played the CF in thir outfield and none actually qualified at the other 2 positions.

I know HAL will assign them to those postions and their defense will still be good.

I have Pete Reiser assigned to CF and batting 6th. I have Duke Snider not assigned and LF blank and hitting 4th.

Since Duke is not assigned he plays LF most of the time. Sometimes they are switched.

I assume that since Duke is a forced sub, that HAL makes him bat 8th. no DH

Is that why Duke is continually batting 8th?

Thanks for the help.

I think if a lineup has an empty spot then the whole thing is subject to change. That's just what I think. Someone with a deeper understanding of the settings would have the answer.

I’m not sure if I fully understand the question. Are you saying that someone’s roster is designed to force Hal to play someone out of position? That’s a very interesting strategy and I’ve never even thought of that before if that’s what you’re saying

My understanding is that everything above the blank spot remains unchanged, but players below can be rearranged. I too have seen this done, and what I saw is that the trade off for having players play out of position (say, drafting three CF with zero additional outfielders) is that they were forced to bat 8 and 9.

It’s a clever, gimmicky move, but in a big player set it’s not like you can’t find outfielders to play the corners.

It may be a fun test of the game’s outer limits, but in the end I think it’s more of a too clever by half thing.

Playing outfielders in an OF position for which they have no defensive rating is a topic that occurs from time.

Here's a link to one of the better discussions of the topic.
