At least for me, it is a three-way distraction, but like I said, I will just continue to avoid it as much as possible.

- Visual distraction - while I am viewing other things that actually draw my focus, the scrolls are catching my peripheral field of view. Meh.

- Mechanical distraction - on my phone or mouse wheel, if the cursor point is inside one of the new info boxes, I don't scroll to where I a want to get to, I am stuck scrolling through their force-fed info. Meh.

- Information focus distraction. If I want info on an item, I would rather know where to go fetch it from when I want it, not have it at the front of my sight picture every moment I am looking at the page. I don't care who last won a championship or what color socks someone prefers except when I want to know it. It's like a HUD in a cockpit--it's a human factors thing. Except, not so important nor so closely engineered. Meh.

If it's such great info, it doesn't need to be force fed. From a Lean/Quality point of view, pushing info/products/services that are not desired/needed is classic waste. Real point is--was this really a requirement ahead of all the other stupid things to fix?

Yes, anal. Yes, OCD. But hey I can be both those things and I can also just vote with my feet, I also don't much mind if I am the only person that feels that way. It is OK. Not trying to make a case, just saying it isn't my thing in case SOM's vast expert staff of IT gurus was wondering.

So, meh.

Cheers

Ha--well you are quite reversing the situation. He is in fact a fan of the scroller and stays glued to it. So, not quite even a close analogy nor does there have to be agreement on everything.

And hell--the poor guy is in a retirement home. Maybe has no family, or family that shoved him there.

I'd say--how about ignoring the "crabby SOB's" comments if you or whoever doesn't like or want to listen or address them? Seems to me that problem is reading them at 11pm and complaining that you read them.

Now that's the analogy.

It's ok to disagree. Where you stand depends where you sit. I am puzzled as to why there is an attempt to coerce unanimity.

Seems like some folks always need to be pointing the finger at someone else.

Trashing the poor old guy in the retirement home as a crabby s.o.b.... the irony is beyond priceless.

As stated, I do. Good to know that any opinion that doesn't square with yours is to be dismissed out of hand. So much for open discourse.

I'm sorry, but didn't you just dismiss my opinion.

It's just that ... An opinion! You are entitled to yours and I mine. It doesn't make either of us right or wrong.

Except that he is a crabby s.o.b. who evidently has nothing better to do than nitpick. My guess is that he probably used to run a company, and must feel, in retirement that he also owns the world. Doubt he was shoved there by family. It’s not that kind of home. A vast majority of the populace choose to live there. Most of them don’t act like they own it, though. I’m just giving the tip of the iceberg. The guy really is a major league douche nozzle.

Beyond that, I have to point out that, seeing as how I’m not the one bitching about the scroller, your attempt to equate my anecdote as self-parody doesn’t hold water. As for pointing the finger, check yourself, kemosabe. You did quite a bit of it when you gave your theories about whose “fault” the new screen was. I didn’t name any names here. I just don’t think the changes are that big a deal, seeing as how I can move my screen a teeny bit and not even see the scroller if I don’t wish to. Seems not worth the trouble to think about, much less devote a thread to trying to trash it.

Agree. Which means I’m allowed to make a point about people making hay over small things like a change of home screen.

No argument.

The guy in the home is a crabby SOB because you said so. That's called compassion.
And not ignoring his nitpicking is very different than you not ignoring that someone doesn't like a change.

Your action not ignoring the nitpicking is called just.

Not ignoring or not liking the changes is unacceptably brutish and nitpicky.

Complete clarity now. Thanks for pointing it out.

No hay being made. I think equating it to a guy's dismal end of life in a retirement home to a front page of an online game may be conflating the statement of "I don't like the change". But hey. To each their hay.

It is ok to like it. It is ok to dislike it.

Someone got on the boards and said they didn't like it and folks decided to offer a contrarian view of the change (fine) while disparaging the people who didn't as opposed to change more generally, or as SOBs (not so nice), and conflating the entire thing to some kind of litmus. Follow the ball.

No, the guy really is a nit picky jackass. Just because he’s an old fart doesn’t make it right. The folks who work there give him plenty of grace. It’d be nice it he saw that, and acted in a manner that deserved it. But he seems to find new -inevitably small- things to complain about. (And again - this is not some shabby community he lives in).

Anyway, outside having to make my point about a person’s behavior for people who haven’t met or know the man, but somehow feel they must defend him - yeah, I think these are pretty small changes. For the most part, the look and interface seems more streamlined. I not sure the scroller is really needed, but it’s easily bypassed by shifting the view. Now, if I were forced to navigate through it to get to the main screens, I’d have issues with it.

P.S. didn’t say people who don’t like the scroller are sob’s. Just accentuating what a small thing it seems to be. Having reread the reactions, I think folks thought I was calling them names, which was not the intent of my story. The only sob I had in mind was the Mr. Nit Pick I described (whom I believe wastes his time and energy on truly small stuff). So, if you thought I was calling you an s.o.b., apologies. Now, a nit picker? Guilty as charged, I imagine.:-)
