Closer rules?

Hi. I'm fairly new to 365, and I'm surely going to want to draft a pre-1990 team soon. Before I do, I have a question for the community on relief rules.

I understand that there is no closer rating in seasons before 1990. So is the regular relief endurance rating all that governs relievers in the late innings? Is "closer" even a role available in the pitching preferences?
