I dont think Paul J gets to upbid himself on Sandoval given that Myk's bid is invalid. I think it reverts back to Paul's 2/1.5M bid, and the rest of the league has the option to upbid on that if they want, including to 3/2M. Once you bid you're stuck with it and cant preempt other action.
TNQuestion came to me with this scenario - can you upbid yourself? I didn't see anything in the rules that prohibited it. Only time it might be useful would be if you offered a guy for a year and wanted to extend to 2 or add an option year to someone.
oldmansmithThe problem is where, as here, a different team expresses an interest in the player you bid but makes an invalid contract offer. So, armed with that knowledge, the original owner shouldnt be allowed to sweeten his bid to preempt a small upbid, but should be required to bid on top of the next upbid like anyone else who has nominated a player. And even if the rules are silent on the situation of upbidding yourself even without anyone trying unsuccessfully to bid over, I still think it should be denied. Otherwise, we'd have to re set the 24 hour clock every time someone did that.
Regardless, it's fixed now.

The rules are silent on the issue of up bidding yourself. You should be able to up bid yourself for the reason Randy mentions. You may decide to extend the number of years on your original contract offer. The only time I think this would make sense is if you are already over the minimum salary required and decide that you want to extend the years to match. For example, you are winning a bid at $3 mil for three years and decide to extend it to four years.
I get the problem with up bidding your own invalid bid, however I think it is a non-problem for most bids as you can always bid 5% more. Unless the bid is getting steep, the cost difference is not significant.
By the way, I appreciate your eagle eye on the bidding. I've been slammed at work and have not been able to monitor the bidding as well as I would like.
As long as we're clear that upbidding your own bid would generate a new 24 hour time period.
