is there an option after card set is released?

Card prices only matter for the 2021 arb settlements. We’re offering extensions to players who are pre-arb or arb eligible for the FY 2022 column. We make decisions before the 2022 season is played.

Won't 2021 arbitration settlements impact the extensions for players that have additional arbitration years remaining (if arb settlement is greater than service time minimum)?

Or do we use 2020 season contract for 2022 arbitration decisions/extension decision?

A 2021 arb decision doesn’t impact either the arb amounts in later years of control or the contract extension amounts for 4-5 year players. Put another way, we can make decisions about this now without needing to wait for this year’s card values to come out later this week. The two things are unrelated

I don't think that's true as it relates to contract extensions. For example, Acuna's and McNeil's arb decisions for sure could affect the annual average of the top 25%/50% at their positions.

Depends. I have to offer Tatis 5.6M for arb 1 rather than the normal 2M figure because he’s a player drafted in our inaugural draft and that was his pre arb salary. By contrast, I can sign Guerrero for $2M in arb 1 because his inaugural salary was lower than $2M. This distinction is in our rules, so it’s worth re reading them or asking Phil a question on this thread

Madal, I actually think you’re right, although your player signings are only one data point in a much larger set of player contracts used to determine the 4 and 5 year minimums, which refer to overall top 25% or 50% salary at a position, league wide. So your decisions might move that overall number, but not by a lot. So I’ll change what I said earlier and contend that arb2021 decisions have little, but some, bearing on the 4-5 year extension minimums for subsequent years.

Regardless, by rule we must make our extension and arbitration decisions before the actual real life MLB season starts.

If folks want to wait until the cards come out this week, fine by me. But I think that Phil set 3/31 as our final deadline. Will let him chime in

I've got Woodruff, who I'd like to extend, but I'm not going to do the extension until the arb decisions come in and the new annual averages are calculated. I want to know what I'm committing to, plus may be worth it to wait for the 5th year depending on what the new numbers are.

The guys I mentioned aren't mine, but if Acuna's arb comes in significantly lower than his current $9+ million, he could fall out of the top 25% of RF's, along with an effect on the top 50%. You're correct that it's not likely to be a huge difference, but probably still worth the wait.
