League Filled - Now Have Fun and Play Ball!!!!!!!

PostSun Apr 10, 2022 7:26 am

Want to try and win with a strategy not dependent on extreme parks or players? A new league has been created with a custom set for this challenge. This ATG 9 set includes only hitters with slugging pct of .500-.599 and pitchers with ERA's OF 2.00-2.99. Ballparks only include BRP of 8-12 for singles and HR's.

The league is called Challenge to win without extreme parks or players and is $115M with a DH.

Please come and join the challenge!!!

I'll give you a bump....Go all the way--just give everyone the same park and same cards and roll the dice! At that point, you really only need dice...

In all seriousness...the year's actual stats will not eliminate or imply anything about "extreme" cards, however that gets defined.

If you are very interested in this, you'd have to do something about the actual results on the card on each side and limit the results on a card.

The cards are all relative to the actual season of play and the opponents and the park they were achieved in (including the extreme ones of course because that is real life, making it more interesting). The cards are created by normalizing for all those factors. It isn't a simple translation of SLG% = {something}.

With the reduced limited player pool and taking out extreme parks/players..........was just hoping to challenge managers to attempt something outside of their normal compfort zone. Not sure you were realizing that roster building for this is not so simple as the super cheap cards don't overly exist and makes interesting decisions on how to fill out the roster and stay in limits of the $115 cap. IMO, this is more than a just roll the dice concept.

There are plenty of leagues with the same deep player/park pool and similar salary caps if managers don't want to try something different! ;)

Thanks for the attempted clarification.
Not sure you realize what I shared which is: your method doesn’t eliminate “extreme cards” no matter how one defines extreme” which of course depends on each person’s subjective opinion.

slugging and ERA has no direct translation to a card.
it is actually quite easier to not have to worry about your opponents if everyone is in the same stadium group.
Limiting players simply increases the importance of the draft, which if an autodraft it is less skill than a live draft with a full pool of players.
like i said, carrying this to its conclusion would be everyone has a 10/10/10/10 stadium. you say that makes it harder.
In my 20 years here, it would make it easier since I dont have to worry about austin or hack or bill playing in shea, for instance. much easier to make player decisions if i only have to worry about a narrow slice if parks.

nothing wrong with any of that. I am simply saying your method for removing extreme cards—whatever those are—will not be accomplished as stated. a card can be extreme with a 2.85 Era or a .500 slugging percentage.

You are making this way more complex than my intentions. I merely wanted a fun league with a different player pool, and smaller, than the norm with park oddities taken out. Not really trying to prove anything. I have played the board game and CD rom version for multiple decades in addition to a few shots here online. Just wanted to to try something different. Not really trying to prove anything.

Don't get hung up on my term "extreme", as I really was just trying to take out the real superstar years and eliminate the cheapy options and see what that did. I understand the nuances of the game, but really not trying to do that here. You have put way more thought into this than I did or wanted to, ;)

Ah OK--sorry about that. I guess I misinterpreted the title and content of your OP.

There are many here who enjoy limited player pools so you'll have no problem filling it then.

Just tried to have a catchy title (apparently failed) to draw interest in filling a league.

forsooth he said in mock perplextion,
as random is such sweet extreme,
I wonder nightly if all this vexation,
is all but someone's bad dream.....

Moving to the top since only three spots are left. Don't have anything pithy to say, but come join the unique challenge of team building in this league. :)
