A little thought, a good salary cap, and a randomized draft list is all you need for a successful franchise league.

Many times, guys who do what was suggested above wind up with league that won’t fill because they took the best franchises and can’t get anyone to take the bad ones.

We’re playing two 1970s Franchise Leagues right now (AL & NL) with a more limited pool (late 60s-mid80s) and an 80m cap, and any team has a chance to win. This is a multi season theme, so every manager gets to play every team.

All that to say, Franchise Leagues aren’t bad. At all.

I think it should be noted--any leagues that andy heads up are interesting, well designed, and in high demand.

I love Franchise Leagues! Especially 24 teamers. I prefer them over boring 12 team leagues where you play the same randomly constructed teams over and over. I've been on both sides of the coin, franchise with a great record in a season and one that was awful. Both present challenges. As long as the cap is set where everyone can compete (which is usually 80m) franchise leagues are great imo.

I understand why you wouldn't want to take a team with a bad or mediocre record but the challenge for me is, can I improve on what that record was? If they won 77 games can I get them over .500 if I managed them differently of if I added a couple different pieces or made some trades.

You don't like them? Don't join them. Otherwise
