In my opinion… difficult to improve a weak team when your 1st 2nd or 3rd choice is for a cheap RP instead of valuable commodity… Maybe (not going to happen) maximum of 3 RPs on roster in early seasons… we have a roster limit of 25 so why not 3 RP’s… again just thinking here…

This is very true. It can be quite frustrating. And I wish there were more relievers for seasons 1 and 2. However, this could have been planned for in season 1. As in , one could draft a reliever , pick one up in FA market (as I did), or build a team whose holes can be filled despite having to use a 2nd round pick in season 2 on a RP. Season 1 is a cornucopia, but many of those players can only be played for season 1.

Also, the very nature of these leagues dictates rebuilding a team and having to eat crow for one to three, or four, or five or ten seasons.

On average , you need to replace 3 players per season and that has to be planned for. If you have 5+ guys retiring it just screws you. 4 is no good either. That is why players who play more than 4 seasons are so valuable. and why Ted Lyons is usually an early pick. He's not a great pitcher, but he's better than average and plays forever. Its not as a big deal once expansion kicks in, but seasons 2-11 are rough. But it's precisely this scarcity that makes these leagues so much fun and so challenging.

I’ve never seen a bad RP go in Round 1 just because he’s an RP. But they often go in 2&3.
Managers should Make plans to get 3.
Conversely, Managers shouldn’t grab extra RPs to hoard in hopes of getting a haul in a trade.
WE HAVE ALWAYS DONE IT THIS WAY. ALWAYS. IT WILL BE OK. 8-)

Yeah, the hoarding is self-destructive, because we don't have a league at all if we don't have everybody with at least 3 RPs. If we can't get to that spot, then we just dissolve ALT14 because of lack of manager cooperation. It's like those classic game theory experiments about cooperation. We all lose if we don't cooperate.
