6 Team - "Teammates" Draft League

PostTue May 24, 2022 5:33 pm

6 Team League
Cap: $240 Million
DH: Yes

Once we obtain 6 Managers (sign-up located at end of rules below), we will request a random number sequence to determine the draft order. The actual draft will be done in the Individual League Chat board. This will be a serpentine draft (1-6, 6 -1, 1-6, etc.).

Rules:

1. In turn, each Manager will select three (3) players which all must come from the same franchise, with the twist described in rule #3. They are considered teammates for franchise purposes, they need not have been actual teammates in real life. Example, Gabby Hartnett and Bruce Sutter would be teammates.

2. Once you draft a teammate grouping from a particular franchise, you cannot select from that franchise again with the exception noted below. Thus, if a Manager selects from the Yankees in any round, that would be the only Yankee player selection he could make.

Exception to three players from a franchise: The restricted player (described in #3 below) will not count toward the three-player maximum from a franchise. Thus, if a Manager selects Babe Ruth as his restricted player, he is still allowed to choose three teammates from the Yankees. Similarly, if a Manager selects three teammates from the Yankees, he is allowed to subsequently select Ruth or Mantle as his restricted player if they are still available in a later round.

3. In any round, each team can select one (1) and only one "restricted player" - one of the following six players:
Babe Ruth
Barry Bonds
Mickey Mantle
Josh Gibson
Rogers Hornsby
Jimmie Foxx

Thus, every team will be guaranteed to have one (and only one) of the restricted players. If you decide to select one of these hitters in any round, you do not get 3 players (teammates) that round. You can trade your restricted player but must receive back the other team's restricted player.

So, for example, if the first manager selects Babe Ruth with the first pick of the draft, he passes up the opportunity to select three players that round. In addition, that is his only restricted player allowed.

4. You don't need to use the highest value card of a player, but the card used must be from that 3-player group franchise. For example, if you chose Lajoie with other A's players in that teammate group, you could not then use one of his Cleveland cards which would cause an imbalance in the 3-teammate maximum from a franchise.

5. There will be nine (9) rounds of drafting teammates from a franchise, plus a round (at any time the manager selects) of drafting one of the top 6 hitters.

6. An additional round (at any time chosen by the manager) will consist of naming a ballpark from a franchise not selected by that Manager previously, or subsequently.

7. The following will be also considered franchises:
a) The NEL League
b) The West Coast (California, Seattle, San Diego)
c) The Heartland (Colorado, Kansas City, Milwaukee-Exp)
d) The Eastern Seaboard (NY Mets. Florida, and Tampa Bay)
e) The Southwest (Arizona, Houston, and Texas)
f) Team Canada (Montreal and Toronto)
g) Any pre-1900 players (e.g., Charlie Sweeney, Ross Barnes, etal.) not on the drop-down menus for any listed franchise.

8. A franchise includes any of its former teams (e.g., the Giants include the NY Giants), unless specifically identified in Rule #7 above.

9. The old Wash teams will be part of the Minn. franchise.

10. Trades will be allowed – please note the limitation on the trading of a restricted player.

11. Once the draft is complete, you can decide to forego a teammate selection you made and choose a different available teammate from a selected franchise. Or you could decide to forego all three teammates from a selected franchise and choose three different available teammates from a different franchise - as long as you abide by the general rules - e.g., no duplication of franchises.

12. By opening day, each manager must end up with a total of either eight (8) or nine (9) teammate groups from different franchises, along with one restricted player, and a ballpark from a separate franchise.

13. Rosters can be 25 – 28 players, as follows:
• 25 players – eight franchise groups of 3 teammates plus a restricted player
• 26 players – eight franchise groups of 3 teammates plus a player from a ninth franchise plus a restricted player.
• 27 players - eight franchise groups of 3 teammates plus two players from a ninth franchise plus a restricted player.
• 28 players – nine franchise groups of 3 teammates plus a restricted player.

Random Number assignment - one the league is filled, we will request a random number sequence - to be filled by somebody not managing in the league. The sequence will determine the draft slot number of each team in the sign-up. For example, if the sequence is 5, 1, 4 ... then the 1st sign-up will have draft slot #5, the second sign-up will have draft slot #1, and so on.

Time Clock: There will not be a time clock. I'm hoping we can move the draft along at a quick pace - but if you are looking for a speedy draft league, this may not be for you.

Additional Rules/clarification:

Ballparks (park and year) cannot be duplicated. Two different years of the same ballpark (e.g., Yankee Stadium '48 and Yankee Stadium '71) will not be considered duplicates.

Please remember to draft so that you can complete the normal Strato rules (i.e., at least 2 catchers, at least 4 relief only, etc.).

Please send any questions not answered above.
