From 1949-1953 the Yankees won 5 championships in a row.

But hey SoM only reruns games twice when its to Bruce's advanatge...
the rest of the time they are 1000% forthcoming with everything and would never
ever say have 'stadium doubles and triples' on if its not listed on the wiki page.

When some people are just too stupid to understand that asking everyone else to disprove a claim rather than accepting the burden of proof (which would be the standard for everyone else) there is nothing further to be gained by conversing with them.

well, obviously after the Eugenics Wars we had to fetter the superiority of the Ubermensches, lest they all Khan Noonian Singh us into submission.

(People bragging about their dice game prowess...priceless. Bet they all have level 80 Elf Wizards, too, and have soloed Orcus on his home plane [woulda won easily, too, but the damned DM fudged their rolls behind the screen!]).

Again, calling people stupid. You're right, there is nothing further to be gained from your posts.

Regression to the mean

PostSun Jun 12, 2022 8:38 pm

Black box stuff or not, wouldn't one expect some regression to the mean to occur from any extremely good or bad short term results? Not saying there isn't stuff going on we may not know about fully behind the curtain, but regression to the mean is a pretty normal concept in the land of statistics.

For sure- some regression to the mean is normal -
don't think anyone would argue against that.

Its the 'once in a blue moon' things that tend to happen with some frequency-
and a few don't seem to get that its not just when your player or team does poorly-
we notice it when say a not great hitter or a team far outplays what it should too,
it doesn't just go one way.

Haven’t seen such exciting banter since The Last Druid was here. I guess there is something to this game we take personally. I think we’re all trying to use logic/math to understand chance and then what ever black box effects there are. That being said it’s kinda silly how good it can feel winning a big 3 game set. But I like it. I think it’s a good idea to be a good sport along the way.

As a high school football coach, I get very in depth there. With every new game is a new set of data to analyze and so much hard work. I just do this for fun. I want to win, sometimes actually I do. Sometimes I even beat some of you guys. Hell I made last year's Barnstormers FInals. (That was probably a bunch of luck) I am continuously trying to learn more about the game.

BUT... you guys are obviously really intelligent people, but damn, you really do seem to try to take all the fun out of this. If all there was to this was winning, I would be pissed a good bit of the time. I absolutely love talking to other managers and learning things they think about the game and either using them or casting them off based on how I see the game. The camaraderie and banter of these leagues is so much a part of the fun.

Maybe I am just simple, but, I don't want to get so involved in the black box crap that I stop having fun. I do care if I win, and want to find out how to construct better teams, but this seems completely overboard for a game that in the scheme of life actually means zero.
