A wild pitch is only Ball One...

PostWed Jun 29, 2022 3:25 pm

We've been playing with a rule for decades (I am 69 and have been doing strat-o since 1964, pre-advanced and the cards were light brown) that counts a passball or wildpitch on the "Catcher's Card" as a situation changer, not something automatically followed by a popout or foulout. When the result of a passball or wildpitch results in runners advancing, the remaining part of the chart is ignored and the batter rolls again. If there are no runners on the popup or foulout is recorded and nothing changes.

The justification is that with the runner(s) on different bases a manager may want to change tactics and, in baseball, wildpitches and passballs are not always followed by popups.

It has been working well without any kind of vast altertion in the outcomes, but I feel more directly reflects a manager's choices during a game.

I do not know if this has been suggested before. To those who have - kudos to you!
