Catcher injury defensive replacement question

PostWed Sep 07, 2022 8:50 am

I'm just starting a new season, and in the very first series, a curious decision from the game manager. I have new add Bengie Molina as a late inning defensive replacement for my starting catcher. Molina gets a 3-game injury, the first string catcher can't return, so Lance Blankenship is out of position behind the plate. I can understand why that happened.

But the next game, instead of leaving my starting catcher, who cannot be injured, in for the entire game, he is taken out for a defensive replacement, Lance Blankenship. Why? Does the "remove for defense with lead" and setting my catcher to have an injured player as that replacement override common sense?

Yes, that button overrides common sense. If you have remove for defensive sub with lead checked for a player, HAL will do that no matter what, even if it means playing a player out of position. You are better off to set your defensive catcher as a defensive replacement on the team strategy page. I never check the remove for defensive sub button for just the scenario you described. HAL has no common sense when that button is on.

NEVER check remove for defensive replacement on the individual player settings.

ONLY designate the defensive replacement on the team settings.

Otherwise HAL will do crazy shit.
