As one of the newest members of the league, would someone please indulge me and explain the logic of not allowing franchises to retain rights to players that switch leagues?

In addition to what Sean said about the retaining and compensation---

Since it's an AL league and an NL league- they are separate, so if a player gets traded to the other league, the player must play in that league- the team losing that player will be compensated with a draft pick -depending on the value of the player-( see compensation rules in the rules section). This also allows for a richer draft- opening up good players to be drafted (benefitting lower ranked teams). The compensation picks also help the team that lost the player to still be competitive- In other AL or NL keeper leagues if you lose Trout or Betts, etc,, it's just tough luck. Hope that helps add a little to Sean's answer.

Guys, I'm here for this but will not be joining again next year. I have too many keeper leagues, and my heart just isn't in this format.

My rosters aren't great, but hopefully a replacement is enticed by Aaron Judge's card next year (!!) and some good prospects.
