My compliments dilgreene13, this is a blast!

It takes me back to the early days of SOMO, before a draft mechanism was built into the game.

In those early days, we conducted all of our live drafts on the boards. It was a long and drawn-out affair which could take up to a week to complete. We'd have 3-hour windows for picks to be made, close down the draft during the overnight hours, and leave proxies with other managers if we knew we'd be unavailable for a while.

Then, a manager who went by the name of Penn Gray, devised a mechanism for a live draft. It was nowhere near as sophisticated as what we now currently have, but it did allow for live drafts and made the whole process more efficient. It still took quite some time to complete, however.

Neither of these options appealed to those managers who didn't have the patience to invest a chunk of time in a draft, and when the live draft option became available to us on the SOMO site it certainly increased the popularity of live drafts.

Anyways, this is a bit nostalgic for me and I'm really enjoying it.

This LIVE DRAFT was actually and 24 AUCTION software. So you bid on players and if no one out bid you for 24 hours you got the player...but if someone jumped on at the final minute and over bid, the clock reset for another 24 hours. You had a budget and the SOM prices didn't matter. We'd created a league with an unlimited cap and then you got who you got.

He was one of my founding members of the first ever LIVE IN PERSON DRAFT in NYC that I started. We held it at the TSN SOM Offices thanks to the original Bernie. penngray, JaserD, T Richardson, Jeep Driver, daniel, myself, mrmoonface, and a few others. ....the good old day. damn, close to 20 years now.

Doug got fed up with the lack of customer service and moved on. Be nice if ever got back on here. He was really good.
