G.Mists Returns...With Friends!

PostSun Oct 23, 2022 11:53 pm

I would like to preface this post by saying that I no longer think the game is rigged. That said, there are mysteries afoot. Link to the picture below!

I had a very strange game. George Sisler bats as "G.Mists" again and Frankie Frisch bats as "F. Fresh". Then there are multiple "chair bases". Any idea what that means? Also, I contacted Strat a while ago about G.Mists and they said "I have absolutely no explanation for why that happened, that's really strange." They also told me that the replayer does not interact with the game beyond spitting out data. So what's interesting is that when G.Mists originally appeared there were speculation that it may have been a fluke computer glitch. But this is now the second time for me.

I suspect many of you probably had it happen and missed it because you were not watching the game replays. I really enjoy doing so so that's why I am able to catch these strange occurences. Now that it has happened twice (that we know of) I think that is enough data to say that there is a specific reason it is happening. All I can think of is alternate card profiles for players. Now that we have Frankie Fresh, we can see that this is not a single instance. So the question is, how many of these alternate profiles (or whatever they are) exist and why?

Does Strat's replay engine have Autocorrect on it? That piece of work seems to screw up a lot more text than it fixes.

I would assume not. Do you know if the original developer that wrote the code has been replaced? I suspect he would be able to explain what is going on but I have no way to contact him.

Any idea what a chair base is? I just play the game, I don't know anything about baseball really :P I googled it and couldn't find anything. The game was tied 1-2 and then G.Mists came, then F. Fresh, then two chair bases, and I suddenly stomped my opponent deep in the game :P

I'd like to have George Mists and Frankie Fresh play for my team.

Just a hunch. I had an iPhone once, it did some weird shit with text. Been using Android ever since.

Ahh, I see. Btw, is a "chair base" a real thing or just gibberish?

EDIT: Ohhh, a chair base is a stolen base apparently. Probably still gibberish but that is what happened in the game at least. It sounds like the replayer might just have some bugs. Very bizarre though. I haven't dealt with anything like that personally with my game.

That is totally bizarre. The game runs essentially by database tables interacting with one another, looking up results based on different events and triggers (e.g. "dice rolls" and coded game logic). All players have a unique key ID on their row in the players table, and the name is a description field associated with the key ID on the same row.

"G.Mists" and "F.Fresh" display because a bug in the game is looking up either an alternate description on the same row (low severity bug) or an entirely different and wrong row (higher severity bug). If it were the latter, G.Sisler's or F.Frisch's actual game cards might not be being used.

It should be brought to the attention of Strat-O-Matic's technical support, if there actually were such a thing.

Good idea. I sent them an email. Hopefully we can get somewhere with this. It is rather strange, tied deep into the game and all of a sudden the code/replayer goes crazy with 3 consecutive bugs whilst I score a bunch of runs and win. Not implying anything other than this could be a gamebreaking bug and things may not be as accurate as they seem. The "chair base" instead of stolen base could indicate it may just be a simple matter of some words getting adjusted. Lastly, I watch all my games and this is twice for Sisler, once for Frisch, twice for chair base (same game), and never for any other players. The only commonality is Sisler.
