Playing the board game back in the day, we would call Tenace; Gene Gene the on base machine ! We got the idea from the Gong Show. He would make for a very versatile bench player.

Gene Tenace - underappreciated in a time when OBP wasn't even an official statistic.

He was better defensively than his one 1973 card. Card viewer shows

1975 C3(-1)5, 1b304 4L
1976, although not superadvanced C3(-1)5 1b308 2L
1977 C4(+1)7, 1b305, 3b441 2R
1978 1b312 C4(0)3, 3b465 5L
1979, although not superadvanced, C3(-1)1, 1b320 3L

Tenace’s 71 and 82 seasons don’t have enough at bats to qualify for nomination

How about catcher 1894 Wilbert Robinson? Only 1 card... Has enough at bats/plate appearances...

But his defense is terrible. He is only listed at one position, catcher, and he is 3(+2) T20 pb 14

I nominated the 1979 Gene Tenace card for the 24.1 add (.263 BA, .403 OBP, .445 SLG, .848 OPS). Defensively he threw out almost 50% of SB attempts with only 1 error. This was after he left Oakland and it would give the Padres a far better option at C than they currently have.

We did get Terry Kennedy for the Friars.

So they DO have someone. But I would love to see Tenace.

Now that Buster Posey is President of Baseball Operations for the Giants :D , I studied his seasons and it looks like the 2021 season was arguably his third best in terms of OPS+ (140) with .304, .390, .499. Actually better than his two other cards (2015, 2017), while his 2012 carded season is definitely tops. In 2021, he's a 4L. Great defense. This was also his last season before retiring ... now on to a big challenge of turning around the Giants. Yea!

Terribly overlooked Roy Campenalla, one of the greatest catchers of all time -- 3 MVP seasons, other great ones, and SOM only has two of his seasons. Need to add.

Suggest his "MVP" 1951 season (we already have '50 and '53 seasons). In terms of OPS+ (different than OPS), he actually ranks better than the those two seasons we currently have. Here:

.325 BA
.393 OBP
.590 SA
33 homers
33 doubles

Absolutely!

Hack, we're thinking along the same lines on Campanella. Great player. Arguably the greatest catcher of his generation and certainly one of the greatest catchers of all time. I nominated 1951 Campanella for the 24.2 card add and he was the leading vote getter.

However, even with the pending addition of Campy's 1951 MVP card to ATG9, I agree that he is still under represented in the ATG card set.

Campanella was MVP in 1951 (inclusion in ATG9 pending), 1953 (included in ATG9) and 1955. I considered nominating 1955 Campanella before deciding in favor of 1951, as the numbers for the 1951 cad were slightly better, but the 1955 card is certainly worthy of inclusion and is more balanced. Here's the breakdown:

1955 Roy Campanella, Dodgers, C 1(-4)e3, T1-10(pb-1) Bats R 2L .318 32 107 .395 .583 .976 Campanella's 3rd and final MVP. Career high in OBP & HBP. 2nd career high in BA. Near 2nd career high in SLG, OPS & OPS+. Batted a career high .324 against RHPs. Not sure why he's a 2L, as his BA, OBP, SLG, OPS and OPs+ were all better vs. RHPs. Needs a more accurate card, updated to a super advanced card, which would probably be a 2R or 3R. Here's the baseball reference link to the RHP-LHP breakdown to Campanella's 1955 stats:

Also below are the Baseball Max links to Campanella's 1955 and 1951 respective cards:

1951 Roy Campanella: https://max.strat-o-matic.com/stats-and ... ype=Batter
