When you trade future picks, you are basically committing to making sure they are legitimate picks when that future draft finally rolls around. In practice, using the current deal as an example, if your roster would become filled prior to the 7th rd pick -- thus making that pick invalid -- then you would typically replace it with your last valid pick as of that moment.

OK, thanks. I have 2 first round picks, so I need to drop down to 20 players to have a 7th rounder. If I include Bourn in my 20, then I get an eighth round pick as well, right? If not, I am playing one short.

You can draft until you have 28 players on your roster, whether that happens in the 6th round or the 12th. If your turn rolls around in any given round and you do not have 28 already, then you can pick.
