Probably using his 1917 season where he led the league in slugging, oPS and OPS+ As well as triples. Not as much home run power of course in the dead ball era but probably a cheaper version that nods to his development from shortstop into one of the top two second basemen of all time.

There's a reason they moved him to 2b, Bryan.

LOL , exactly! And from what I've read, the 2 ratings at 2b are quite generous at that

Probably true. However when I look at his defensive stats for 1917 he is above league average in both range (5.62 vs 5.34 per 9/inn) and fielding percentage. (.939 vs .931). He was second in the league in assists and led the league in double plays for all shortstops that year. He was fourth in the league in both range and fielding percentage at short but he did make a ton of errors, second in the league. All this while being the 8th youngest national league player as a 21 year old

Interesting to follow his position progression on the Strat card reader. In 1917 he is a SS3e54. In 1918 he is a 3e63 and a RF/CF 4(+3)13. Then in 1919 he tried all the infield slots - 3b3e33, ss3e53, 2b2e34, 1b3e20. In 1920 he was exclusively 2b, 2e34. In 1921 he did everything but catch: 2b2e26, lf/cf/rf 4(+3)13, 3b4e50, ss3e50, 1b3e16. From then on he was pretty much just a 2b. Of course these numbers are adjusted into ATG. For eg in 1922 the card reader has him as 2b2e29, but in ATG he is 2e17, and in 1924 the card reader has him as a 2e32 and in ATG he is a 2e20.

1928 would be an interesting franchise add because he played for the Boston Braves, led the league with a 1.130 OPS, and was a 2b2e23.

Going off this same concept i don’t know if I’m here or under catcher improvements but a Jimmie Foxx card with catcher eligibility would be nice. 1935 would probably be the best year offensively that he would qualify

He looks catcher eligible 4-5 times. Always a 4(+5) with errors in the 8 range, T-7 or 8, and pbs at 2-3.

So how is range in SOM determined? I doesn’t seem to be from the stats that are out there.

How does 1939 Mize compare to his current cards? Also Baseball Reference lists his 1940 OBA as .404 not .396 as the card shows.

As you’d expect from his stat line, more OBP and AVG but less Power.
I’ll do the figures when I get a chance.
