Ted Lasso ATG League - Season 10

PostWed Dec 14, 2022 9:31 pm

The database from Andy’s ATG9 Alts meets the promotions, relegations, and titles from the Ted Lasso League. It’s a match made in baseball heaven!

* * * See more formal set of rules at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 1927312223

18 teams, playing as 3 leagues of 6 teams each
- $110 million salary cap
- 3 champions per season (no playoffs)
- Best 2 in each of the lesser divisions promoted at the end of each season
- Worst 2 in each of the top divisions relegated at the end of each season

Segue from starting point to promotion/relegation:
- Season 1: Random division assignments, as qualification round
- Season 2: 6 teams with most wins placed in division 1, next 6 in division 2, etc.
- Season 3 and later: Promotion and relegation, as above

Andy has a marvelous spreadsheet that identifies the start and end years for all of the MLB players in the ATG9 set, and I have added data for the NEL players to it, too. Andy currently uses that to run 12-team leagues with 4 MLB years per season (22 seasons).

SEASONS
By my count, ATG9 has enough players to have 18 teams playing with 7 MLB years per season (16 seasons):
- Season 1 from start of set to 1913
- Seasons 2-15 at 7 years each, ending in 1920, 1927, 1934, etc.
- Season 16 from 2012 to end of set

MULTIPLE TEAMS
Each manager can own multiple teams in the league, as long as they do not play in the same division. When promotion or relegation places two of a manager’s teams in the same division, then one of the teams must be either dropped or traded.

ROSTERS
Each team will have up to 25 players:
- The league spreadsheet will show the first and last years in which each player is eligible to play; e.g., Ted Williams played in MLB from 1939 to 1960, so he is eligible to play in any seasons which include those years.
- Each eligible player will remain on your roster unless you drop him. When that eligibility expires, however, then he must retire.
- There will be no free agent pickups at the end of the draft or during a season.

TRADING
Trading of players will be encouraged, however managers with multiple teams will not be allowed to make trades between them. Trading of current draft picks will also be allowed, between the end of a season and the end of the draft for the next season.

DRAFTS
Traditional MLB franchises will not be relevant in this league. Instead, there will be standard keeper league drafts at the start of each season. After you draft a player, you may use any card in the set for that player, as long as he is eligible. The year on the card does not matter.

Lists of player debuts for the coming season will be published prior to each draft. In addition, any other eligible players not currently on rosters can be drafted, too. In rare instances, there might not be enough relief pitchers available. When that happens, managers may draft “retired” players from the season just ended or players from the next season's debuts, as long as their salaries are less than 1 mil. Such players will be drafted for that season only. [edited]

Draft sequence will vary as follows:
- By randomizer in first draft, with serpentine sequencing of rounds
- By W/L record in second draft, in reverse order of success
- By division in subsequent drafts, as follows:
.....4 teams at bottom of lowest division draft first
.....Next, the 2 teams that were just relegated to the lowest division
.....Then the 2 teams that were just promoted to the next highest division
.....Then the 2 teams remaining in the next highest division, etc.
- Note: After the initial draft, there will be a lottery to determine the sequence of the first 4 picks in the 1st round of each new season’s draft

STADIUMS
Each team will draft a stadium during the initial draft, in any round of a manager’s choosing. During the initial draft, all stadiums selected must be available in a season from the start of the set until 1913. [edited] If a newer version of a chosen stadium becomes available in a later season, then the manager may choose whether to keep the older stadium or move to the new one when the Strat season including that year rolls around. Just as with players, all versions of a particular stadium belong to the team that drafts it.

If a manager wishes to move to an entirely different stadium in a later season, then the current stadium can be dropped prior to the next draft and replaced during that draft. Replacement stadiums must be available in the MLB years of the Strat season in question. [edited]

WORLD CUP
In a nod to the Ted Lasso element in this league, the full ATG9 card set will be used in a final World Cup season, in which the top six teams from all of the other seasons will go head to head for the all-time top honors.
If a manager has multiple teams eligible for the final six, then he must choose which one will participate
If an ATG player is assigned to more than one of the World Cup teams, then the team with the best W/L record will keep him. Another player with the closest possible set of characteristics will replace him on the other team.

BREAKING TIES
Any use of the phrase “best W/L record” will include tie-breaking efforts as follows:
- Most wins in the season will be the first level
- Next, head-to-head wins will be compared
- If still tied, then overall run differential will be next
- Followed by head-to-head run differential after that
- If all else fails, a coin toss will determine the result

NOTE: A full set of rules will be published in the near future -- Done. See https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... 1927312223

Initial draft will likely start in January, during the slowest Strat time of the year

The whole ATG9 player set is what you'll be using?

So I guess my first question is relievers. I know they are tight in Andy’s leagues in the 20s and 30s. And he has special dispensation to just use 3. So are you counting on using 3 or 4 pure relievers and are there enough for each set of seasons?

No special dispensation yet, but I'll chat with Andy about how he organized that -- I've not played in his leagues for a couple of years now. The provision to use "retired" players from the season most recently completed should help, though. Any ideas on how to improve?
