I'm the new guy, so what do I know???
I think the issue is half of the league is pretty focused on the draft and want to get it over ASAP, part of that is weekend picks. When there is a 19 hour gap in between picks it means someone has checked out. And it's not isolated to weekends, there were some mid-week picks that went almost 24 hours until the person picked and they got penalized by letting 10 picks go before them getting theirs in.
If we had a clock we'd probably be done (or close to) being done with the prospects. Now some of us have to balance the picks with work this week which is obviously more of a pain than making the weekend picks.
I just tend to think getting drafts done efficiently should be the goal. And given the ability to lay proxies there are ways to balance "real life" obligations in the process. And if someone doesn't care enough to check in then that's totally their choice. I just know some of us no-lifers (myself included) spend a lot of time hitting refresh buttons throughout the weekend waiting for picks to come in and wanting to get our picks in as quickly as possible.
I respect everyone in the league and would hate to have people waiting on me, but I do understand and appreciate that is not a universal view and the relative importance of this game and these leagues differ from owner to owner.
That's about as much as a new guy should be able to say, and probably more than I should have... Just wait til year 2 when I can really let loose
