Gentlemen,
Congrats on completing another free agent signing period. We signed 138 players at an average salary of $2,366,000. Paul Goldschmidt led position players signing a three year $33,750,000 contract with Scottsdale Sluggers at an average of $11,250,000 a year. The Marin McCoveys opened their purse spending $36,500,000 on three players, signing Justin Verlander to a two year $20,000,000 deal while also grabbing Matt Carpenter for $9,500,000 and Trayce Thompson for $7,000,000 for a year each.
The Minnesota Wetspots were the busiest team this offseason, completely remaking their roster with nineteen new signees on the roster. The Wetspots will be fielding a completely revamped starting rotation with Tyler Anderson, Clayton Kershaw,
Kevin Gausman, and Luis Severino joining the staff. The Wetspots shelled out nearly $45 million for their new rotation, which they hope will bring them post season glory in 2023. All told, the Wetspots shelled out almost $103 million for their new roster. The Minnesota faithful are hoping this profligacy is rewarded with a championship.
The reward for tightwad goes to the Ellicott City Torrent who were anything but a torrent in this annual auction. The torrent spent just over $7 million for ten new editions at an average salary of just $705,000. The Ellicott City fans were disappointed by the failure to bag a big name on the free agent market and will have to hope for a little luck as their hometown heroes struggle against some powerful competition in the upcoming season.
Next up, the prospect draft which is scheduled to begin on Tuesday Feb. 21st at Madison Square Garden in NY City.
