Fielding

If I have only one first baseman, and he gets injured, what is would the fielding rating be for the
player Hal puts in to take over? I would suppose a 5 range... what about e rating? Thanks for any help
you can give me on this.

5 e50 I believe. I could be wrong. I'd like to add a question here: What would the arm be of catch in this instance? +5?

You will NEVER be left without a catcher in this game. If you only have two players rated at C on your roster and the first one gets hurt, the second one becomes BULLETPROOF until the injured one comes off the injury report.

True on Bullet Proof.
Not HAL proof.
Jimmie Wilson and Joe Sugden in a platoon. No DH as a factor in this case.
Wilson is set to be Sugden's platoon partner and hit vs LHP.
Wilson comes in as PH vs LHP, sending Sugden to the bench.
Other team brings in RH RP.
Without seeing a pitch, Wilson is pulled for a PH.
Tony Phillips finished the game behind the plate.

Copied from pdf file that comes with the Windows game.

In most cases, the substitute at the unfamiliar position plays with
the worst possible defensive ratings: A 5 range rating, the highest
“e” rating for the position, a +5 throwing arm, and/or catcher “T”
and “pb” ratings of 1-20.

25.21 The exception is a rated outfielder playing another outfield
position that is not listed on his card. In such cases, the outfielder’s
“e” rating and arm rating remain unchanged. And he does not automatically
become a “5”. Use the OUTFIELD FIELDING ADJUSTMENT
CHART on Page 18 to adjust his range rating.
When assigning a player who is rated at two outfield positions
to play the third (for which he is not rated), base the new rating on
the first outfield position listed on his card. For example, a player is
LF-1, CF-3. If you needed to move him to RF, use LF as the basis,
which would make him a RF-2.

That is what I thought too but it is not exactly true. You cannot have all of your catchers injured but that does not mean the backup will be put into the game if he is serving as your DH. Even if you have him set as your backup in the manager settings he may at times not be put into the game. In other words it's probably an oversight with the game code. Definitely a frustrating way to lose lol.

I find setting your lineups with backup players that are not in your starting lineups will prevent Hal from putting in a 5e50 fielder. Nickel players can be good for this.

Correct, if you are DH'ing a catcher (or possibly playing them at a different position as well), it changes everything for that game certainly.
