My point came out in a way that was like a backhanded criticism--wasn't what I intended.
I didn't fully appreciate what you were remarking. cheers

Being relatively new to Strat and 365, I am amazed at the detail and understanding that you (Franke, Max, Andy, etc) have for this game. I guess I will have to double up on my studies ( or keep a close watch on you guys for info). I must say I find a team with strong SP, *SP and a HAL controlled BP, with moderate OBP in a pitchers park to be a viable solution. I've just started looking at a small ball team and will probably need some advice on that. Thanks guys for all your sage advice and that make this game so much more interesting.

cheers mate--not sure about anyone else but my shtick is luck! It involves incense, never walking on cracks, and a 30 second routine before I log in. Like a combo of Rafi Nadal and Nomar Garciaparra's pre-play habitual routines. :)

There are many avid small-ballers around these parts so I am sure you will get some opinions if you put out a call to arms.

Enjoy

The best GM at smallball in my humble opinion is egvrich...

He's a real master...

And he's a most available and forthcoming buddy... sharing his knowledge and expertise with whoever asks him advice... :P

Seconded.

That brings up a great point--seeking advice is smart...like with anything else, listening to advice from those who speak from a position of success is smarter.

Except for a weak platoon in a high cap, I have never found a scenario where the 85 Henderson was an optimal choice for any environment.
For me, small ball it is 82 or 83

For HR park, the 90.

Was just going over this teams stats and remembered this post…… the 85 Henderson Card has 44 homeruns and 40 steals with 18 games to go.

Oh well, I was disappointed with Nomar '99 on this recent team: https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1710381

.276 .343 .485
.902 OPS against lefties in 268 at bats, but I expected better.

In Nomar's 2000 season he led the league with 20 intentional walks. Were they 'regular' walks, would he have a few more on the card?

I, too, have always thought that card should be better. There are others in the set that are in that category. Derrek Lee's 2005 season is one of those. He led the league in BA, D, TB, Slug, OPS, OPS+, Offensive WAR, and was 4th in OBP (although 23 IBB), excellent defense and speed. Yet the card is not very special and not used much.

Here;s a quick article on E.Davis, N.Garciaparra, and G.Sizemore.

Davis was amazing. I remember wathching him. In the article there's a clip showing his 1990 world series HR. He had that weird stance where his hand were so low prior to his swing. He was so injury prone - How do you lacerate your kidney (and spend 40 days in the hospital) diving for a ball in the outfield?

EDavis was a specimen. Probably didn't have an ounce of fat on him. And such a hard-nosed competitor.

So maybe with some ice cream and potato chips and if he had carried a little winter weight he would not have lacerated that kidney!
