Hypothetical

PostFri Feb 24, 2023 4:38 am

If I have 10 teams reach the postseason playoffs in standard 12 team leagues, what number of credits should I reasonably expect to earn as a result?

I'm guessing that number should be around 6 to 8.

Obviously. In 10 playoffs 30 credits are going to be distributed to 40 teams. But what triggered my hypothetical was a glance at my lackluster playoff record in ATG9 All Eras. 15 trips to the promised land, only three championships and 8 credits to show for it. I would think anyone, especially if you've been doing this as long as I have, should be able to earn more than one credit for each two playoff teams.

Lately it always seems my opponent is more fortunate, and better at closing it out in the playoffs.

I believe Stromatic should award half credits to the two teams that are eliminated in the wild card round of the playoffs. It would add to the regular season if you earned a small award for making the playoffs. Many of us are playing 10 or 12 leagues at a time, it would be a nice gesture and may even increase participation overall.

Agreed. It wouldn't kill them in fact, it probably would lead to more participation.

Credits are the coin of the realm. I don't know how "half credits" would work, but I agree, it's a no brainer, anything that increases participation, goodwill toward SOM, and interest in the product is a good thing, and credits won't cost them a thing.

In theory, half credits could work. How would they work? I would speculate they would sit there in your account until you earned another half credit which would give you one.

Anybody around long enough to remember ATG1 ? The winner earned a $50 check that they mailed to your home address.

Didn't last very long. :D

Well, how about that. If by some miracle SOM decided to award half-credits to the first round losers, then it would be four credits given out for each league, making my original hypothetical for evey 10 teams one has that reach the playoffs, he should expect a total of 10 credits in return.

So here's another hypothetical. Let's suppose they see the wisdom in awarding half-credits. What would be the result? I'd guess there would be more guys trying to get something out an otherwise useless half-credit by either signing up for more teams, or purchasing a half credit at $10 to make it a full credit.

If they structured it that way, instead of a getting a bogus "half-credit" you were entitled to purchase a team for the discounted half-price rate of ten dollars, it would be wildly popular with managers like me that fall in the first round of the playoffs, and a win-win for the business end of SOM.
