I find expensive pitchers have the best consistency on ERA. Low to mid-range pitchers will achieve their expected ERA, but there might be some more swings along the way. Think of Sandy Koufax and Pete Vuckovich. Koufax will consistently get a 2-3 ERA, while sometimes Vuckovich will do great and other times get taken out of the game early often.
