Aaron Judge 2022

PostTue Mar 21, 2023 12:44 pm

Latest season now available, I was admiring the incredible card for Aaron Judge, priced at what I thifnk might be the highest ever for the online game at $15 million. There's so much to like about this card, no injury risk, outstanding defense in RF, good speed, obviously a lot of power, and hitting better vs RHP is a big plus in the ATG universe. A true modern 5-tool player, according to SOM. When top 20xx cards are brought into ATG, their salary is usually priced at 80-85 % of the single season game. Any ideas, guesses what the Judge will cost in ATG?

My opinion, he would have a salary between 13.5 and 14 million.

If I comp him to Betts,'27 Ruth, and a few others I'd expect in the mid 12 to low 13 range because of the steep non-linear price relationship to the outstanding defense, and the shade to RHP.

Lots of HRs, but less OBP than those two guys and doesn't make up for the hits with OBP like Ruth.

Certainly a high cap platoon option vs RHP.

But I forgot about the injury part--that is usually a premium too. Maybe you are right :)

I looked at Judge's 15M$ card...

I understand that he is a no injury risk, that he plays exceptional right field defense RF1 (-4)-e-0...

That he has better than average speed...

But... hittingwise... for 15M$... frankly he's not worth that much money...

:o  :o

vs. lefties HRs 1-4, 1-5, 1-6 (1-19), # 1-8 (1-17) and # 1-10

vs. righties HRs 1-5, 1-6, 1-7 (1-12), #1-8 (1-17), # 1-10...

so Judge being a R... you certainly hope he plays in... a rightie friendly stadium...

back to the 15M$...well you know... 15M$ is a lot of dough... especially that 7.15M$ Sammy Sosa's hitters card is better suited if you want my opinion...

aside from the above mentioned HRs, Judge has monstly only walks... de hit 28 doubles with his 62 HRs...

Mookie Betts' card 11M$ and change certainly has less HR power but is much better vs. lefties...

at 15M$... JUDGE IS A NO_GO !!!

BECAUSE STONE COLD SAID SO !!!

 ;)

Oh agreed--he won't be 15M in ATG. That's his latest season card price.

Question is what will he be in ATG?
I thought Betts was a good comparison too--though HRs vs righties tend to get weighted more heavily because most leagues are 65-35 RHP or thereabouts.
Thus I thought Ruth was a good comparison but then you have to comp for defense and injury, and allow for the lack of OBP vs lefties.

I dunno--my gut feel is he is going to be overpriced because the combination of HRs against RHPs, extreme defense, and bold green 1 injury are all high premiums.

but in the players Championship... where caps don't exceed 100M$...

15M$ is quite a burden...

he won't get drafted much...

there wasn't too much offense in the majors last year...

we'll go with pitching and defense...

Aaron Judge will earn $40 million playing for the Yankees in 2023. So I guess $15M is a bargain compared to real life.

His 2022 card won't get into ATG anytime soon. The last batch we voted on could only include players up to 2021, as that's what SOM decreed. Tip of the hat to the our fellas here handling the new card additions/voting, it looks like we have an awesome batch forthcoming. :D
