If I pick Toronto, I own the rights to Clemens.

Just because Toronto wasn’t taken, that doesn’t change it’s content.

It still possesses the top salary card of Roger Clemens.

A free agent.

i drafted under the assumption that free agents would be handled as usual. in the past clemens would not be a free agent as he has cards owned by other franchises.

If Boston had the highest salaried Roger Clemens then and only then should

the Toronto card be disqualified because it was already owned...

Doug, the Toronto card isn't disqualified at all. Since Toronto wasn't chosen Boston gets his rites because they have the next highest valued card, but Boston can choose any Clemens card. And if they trade him, the team that gets him can choose any Clemens card.

I've been in this league since season 4, and nothing has ever changed in this regard.
