Here is a smallball team I made 80Mil NO DH which has a 14-4 start. https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1718015

Here is the league it is in: https://365.strat-o-matic.com/league/464363

I made some files to pick my players. Hitters with ball park home runs below average, OBP above average, hitters with less than average strikeouts, and hitters with natural hits above average. I used Diamond Dope player pool to get 3 of the files and salaries_public_atg9 file to get the strikeout file. I did the opposite for pitchers, starters and relievers. So far so good.
Thank you for your input from Egvrich and FrankieT. I optimized my team for my schedule by getting Bottomley and Bradley for the lefty park in my division and one in the other division.

Tom

That's a good-looking team Tom. I think the key many miss is your quote above. Making those adjustments to the environment is critical, especially as the competition stiffens.

Good luck and great start!

PS: We need to have someone pin a thread of Rich's somewhere around here ;)

Not gonna lie ... That would be kinda cool to be remembered for a while longer.

Haha--well how about you either pick one or construct something suitable for framing and we can see what we can do.
After all, we could try to make it into a How-To thread

I think if any thread I participated in should be sticky, it would be this one about building a quality small ball team.

Hey Palmtana!
Could make this thread a sticky under the general strategy forum?
Maybe minus the last few posts?

My team is now 28-8 and hits better at home at Petco than even on the road.

Also, a good record against RHP of 21-3.

This is all very helpful—thank you! One question: does your recommended steal setting (team conservative, individual players set on steal more) minimize the attempts to steal third? Have found this aspect extremely frustrating when trying to use “speed” teams.

I have used and am using it for my last 8 teams and for 162 games the average times stealing third is attempted 10 times.

Conservative team will definitely reduce the attempts at 3rd & Home. If you set a team for very aggressive, guys are gonna get caught stealing 3rd and home on a pretty regular basis. That's why I do it the way I do.
