Gentlemen’s agreement is fine by me but you can create custom sets. I never tried it because my computer is broken and I mainly use my phone so I’m unsure if and how it would work on the phone. But under the community tab there’s a section for custom player sets where you can make sets based off of whatever you’d like using the available cards. There’s minimums you have to reach for positions and number of cards but I’m sure you can find a way to your liking player set wise.

Gentlemen agreements work fine to just have to either have the right group of people or be specific with the rules when creating a league because people will cut every corner if given the opportunity. Either way let me know

That sounds pretty cool Perhaps we could try to identify the most overpowered and underpowered cards and nuke them as a group. I wonder how much interest there would be in something like this though. I have heard some complaints from friends about excessive platooning but I'm not sure what most people think about it. I used to think it was cool but it's gotten obnoxious for me :P But even aside from that there are a bunch of questionable non-platoon cards.

Yes, I’ve created custom sets and it’s not too hard. Happy to volunteer if there is a consensus as to the parameters. I like Mattw0909’s idea of editing out cheap platoons. How about:

All 4R/4L (and more extreme) below $6 million are deleted.
Applies to both pitchers and hitters. (No Bill Byrd! No Fred Scherman!)
Call the card set “No Cheap Platoons”

Revised as follows:

All 4R/4L (and more extreme) below $6 million are deleted.
Applies to hitters only.
Call the card set “No Cheap Platoons”
ATG 9 “all”

I’m not convinced the Molina issue is that crucial. Also, to get people to play the card set it’s got to be simple. The Strat sign up doesn’t have a lot of details. I’d hate for someone to sign up and be disappointed their favorite player is missing when it’s not obvious from the name of the set.

Interesting ideas. I have some questions!

1. Are 4+ R/L Balance Pitchers a balance issue or something you guys generally dislike? I don't use them that much anyway except for relievers.

2. So about those relievers :) Is it a good idea to remove specialists? That would mean everyone would be forced to use generalists (3L and 3R isn't too popular). I find this idea interesting but not 100%.

We could evolve this card set over time and start out with just a couple things or we could add more ideas. I would like to eliminate at least some of the horrendous cards. As in we'd nominate them and if nobody disagrees they would all get removed. I would suggest banning extremely optimal cards such as Bengie Molina to create more parity and balance in various niches.

Not 100% sure I'm playing but this does sound like it might make me a lot happier. Just looking at these damn platoons nearly every single game is getting really old :P

Edit: Just realized that if the specialist pitchers are removed the leagues could have a lot of 9 righty and 9 lefty lineups and that could be bad.

I guess the pitchers wouldn’t be as important to limit in that sense. My thought was more about in a dh league you can run 4 9* out there with the cheap lefty/righty specialist bullpen but I didn’t really account for the lefty or righty heavy lineups

One other issue I can see in pinch hitters being too weak but that is probably a worth sacrifice for the sake of greater balance.

Sorry, fellas, I will pass on this league. I like the freedom of picking any player without all the rules and restrictions. All of which sound like they're going to be arbitrary, likes and dislikes, who thinks this player is undervalued or a bargain etc. So unnecessarily complicated. Finding the bargains is part of the fun in this game. Besides, I hardly join theme leagues of any sort, very rare.

But that said, good luck in this endeavor, hope it turns out cool for everyone involved.

You know Hack, I will just say it feels like deja vous all over again when I hear complaints and "calls to arms" over transparent posting of the game rules, the pointlessness of new card additions, the claims that SOM is putting a finger on the outcomes to favor certain players, and the general tone and tenor of responses, drawing up a line of division and with binary discussions, threads posed as questions, etc etc.

All I can say is it is like reminiscing to 10-15 years ago on these very same boards and the older ones. And the same battle lines drawn up.

I am still convinced there are more than a few personalities here that have popped up at convenient times to carry the torch when the discussion under a another name went flat.

Quite the drama and the queens haven't quit--which is likely why most of SOM's customers regularly avoid the boards.

I'd be game for a custom league. It would be best to allow specialists to prevent 9 lefty/9 righty lineups.

I like Kearns revised option. I'll test drive it. question. is it 5-9L and 5-9R r eliminated. E-4L and E-4R r left in the set? but I think all reverse splits should be left in the set. their aren't that many exaggerated RS hitters anyway.
