HAL doesn’t do defensive substitutions

It is rare that HAL does my substitutions. I have a 1 at 1b on the bench. He very rarely come in. Why?

Yes, it's frustrating that he rarely makes the moves you list under Team Strategy. However, under Hitter Preferences if you check Rem. 4 def sub, HAL will consistently remove the player selected when you're ahead late in the game. Unfortunately, he will remove that player even if your 1 fielder has already pinch hit and your first baseman's new replacement(s) is now worse.
