I like the windows game, though i haven't gone back to it since i started competing against real people here. I've never played against someone else in windows, so I only know about playing against the game engine.
Yes, you can in-game manage. You make decisions batter-by-batter. You can totally manage the bullpen, baserunning, etc.; only your AI opponent has to deal with HAL. Lots of options for customization. Can pull up head-to-head comparisons for every player on your team and every opponent, so if you want you can really optimize every bullpen and pinch-hitting decision. You can do lots of crazy stuff, really. I had a lot of fun with it.
