Is it me or just the game?

I have played so many seasons on PC, after or many years before (1980s) board game individual team seasons.

I have had a few reliever pitching lines of 1 IP 7 H 7 R 7ER games. I even had a 10 run lead with a mop up pitcher in the 6th inning that I lost with only two pitchers used.

I am exasperated to the point where I may go back to a online game, that I am just okay about.

My questions are as follows from anyone that can take pity on my pathetic baseball sim soul.

1. Are there any old threads on pitching strategies?

2. Am I better off letting the GAME pick the relievers, after only a few selections like Closer, and Specialists. Even the innings pitched options and quick hooks, because those don't seem to work.

3. Is it just a game of trial and error, because I would NEVER let any reliever give up 7+ runs in any outing. As I write this sentence, I may know why. So, a change in pitching strategies in store today.

I get the game as a player from the 1970s. I'm just frustrated with reliever options. Thank you for my rant today.

Agree that you shouldnt use too many roles for relievers. I also find that if you dont have a deep relief staff you get a few games where someone gets annihilated while the rest of the staff recovers from previous outings. But it's hard to carry a deep staff because you have to score runs to win in strat and you need to spend money on offense. I feel that you have to take a few beatings each season to compete.

Okay, it's good to know that I'm not alone. Thank you for your reply. I just wish this game had a better source for play strategy like the Monthly Newsletter 40 plus years ago. Glenn and others freely shared strategies in articles.

I wish the pitching options would consider amount of runs given up for a hook or replacement.

I have won championships with never setting anything and have lost 100 games doing the same. I let Hal run the first 12 to 15 games and look at the moves he makes. Sometimes he runs the team like a champ, and I don't do anything and sometimes he stinks, and I set it up.

I was thinking about doing that strategy. But, never had the guts to change. I have one more season to play. Thank you.
