It has come to my attention that the SBDL webpage, started by Palanion and hosted on the Angelfire server, is not secure and can reroute anyone looking at it to unsavory spam and adds.
Here is a copy of the current SBDL league rules (if anyone wishes, I can forward these in a 2-page document to your e-mail)
SBDL League rules
Section A: League structure
1. Currently using ATG 9 (all ages)
2. Salary Cap: $100M to begin with each reboot
2a. an up to $5M up or down change in the cap is permitted (but not required) at the discretion of the team owner with the best regular season record from the previous season (to be announced prior to the steal round). Tie breaker would be based upon 1st) head-to-head, 2nd) most recent SBDL championship
2b. The salary cap for each season can only be in the range of $95M-$110M (in $1M increments) and cannot change by over $5M per season (see 2a)
3. No DH
4. Fixed 5% free agent drop penalty (starting season 45)
5. Teams assigned to set divisions (not random)
6. Unique Ballparks (any park available may be used)
7. The Player pool will consist of exactly 12 letter groupings at a time (more detail below)
Section B: League and initial team creation
1. League creation
a. The ATG player set is divided by hitter and pitcher sets and by first letter of the players' last names
*The number of players in each group has varied as Strat-o-matic adds players to the pool
Hitters groupings (12 sets) include:
M
B
S
C
A,D
T,J
G,O
H,Y
P,F,Q
L,I,K
N,R,V
W,E,U,Z
Pitcher groupings (10 sets) include:
B
S
G,L
H,J
M,U
N,A,Q,W
R,O,T
C,K
D,I,F
P,E,Z,V,Y
b. Base player pool is 12 letter groupings of which at least 4 must be hitters and at least 4 must be pitchers
c. Base player pool is created by a single round draft in which each manager selects one grouping to be added to the pool
d. The draft order for the selection of player groups will be a randomizer to be solicited from the Strat-o-matic ATG forum
e. Initial Divisional alignment will also be determined by a randomizer to be solicited from the Strat-o-matic ATG forum
2. Initial team creation
a. Serpentine format (1-12, then 12-1) draft in 14 rounds, consisting of 13 players and 1 ballpark (ballpark may be picked at any round in the draft)
b. Draft order will be overall winning percentage of SBDL career, worst to first.
c. Draft to be conducted on the message board (the SBDL thread on the Strat-o-matic individual league forum)
Section C: Between seasons
1. 3-1-3 Keeper format
a. Each owner announces 3 keeper (or protected) players
i. A keeper must be a player who was on that manager's roster at the end of the preceding season
ii. A manager may use ANY eligible season for that keeper (although a player such as Babe Ruth or Joe Wood who have both hitter and pitcher cards may NOT change roles unless both their Pitcher and Hitter letter groupings have been eligible at some time since league creation)
b. After each manager has named their first 3 keepers, a Steal round will commence
i. Steal order will be worst to first from the previous season. The stolen player becomes a 4th keeper for the manager who stole that player
ii. Only one player may be stolen from each manager's roster
iii. A manager may not steal from their own team unless there is not another option
c. After the steal round each manager may select another 3 (or fewer) keepers and announce them (managers are allowed to have between 4 and 7 keepers)
i. Each manager may have a maximum of 4 Hitters or 4 Pitchers as keepers
ii. Each manager must have a minimum of 1 Hitter and 1 Pitcher as keepers
d. Keepers must be announced and posted on an appropriate forum (currently the SBDL thread on the Strat-o-matic individual league forum) in a timely fashion as directed by the commissioner
2. Retirement
a. one letter grouping from the player pool will be removed at random (using a randomizer solicited from the ATG forum) after each season (not to be used again until the league restarts following the exhaustion of all unused letter groups)
b. Keepers may be from the "retired" letter group - This is the only way those players can remain active.
c. A "retired" player who is cut during a season remains active until the end of the regular season (therefore another manager may pick him up to prevent his retirement at the end of the season)
d. The retired letter grouping is replaced by one previously unused letter grouping (again using a randomizer)
e. The selection of retiring and replacement letter groups will occur prior to game 82 of the current season, though the actual removal and addition of eligible players will not occur until after the season.
3. Drafting
a. There will be a 6 round live draft following all keeper announcements
b. order of draft will be Worst to first (not serpentine) from the prior season records with post season results included
c. Tie breakers: #1 Head-to-head record, #2 run differential, #3 randomizer
d. For the live draft, we will use the message boards.
e. Time limits - For the first round, we will plan a 24-hour clock (although if all can log on and enter proxies this will go much faster). For the second through 6th rounds we will plan a 3-hour clock or longer (between the hours of 9am-midnight eastern standard time) depending on the reliability of the site used for drafting (clock may be varied by the commissioner or consensus).
f. After the 6 round live draft is complete, the keepers and drafted players are to be placed on the bottom of each manager's card for the auto-draft
4. Ballparks
a. Any team may change parks, but only after completing at least 3 seasons in the same stadium.
b. If a manager elects to change parks, they shall state their intent and name the new stadium during the keeper phase of the off-season. They also will use their 6th round draft pick to pick this stadium
c. Any new owner taking over an existing team has the one time option to select a new park without waiting 3 seasons and without giving up a draft pick
5. Additional rules
a. One trade involving keepers is allowed per team from the time of keeper announcements through the start of the season
b. Teams MUST retain their keepers until after game 6 of the regular season has been completed
c. Trading of players is allowed during the regular season (provided Keepers are Kept through game 6)
d. If proposed by a manager, Divisional realignment may occur by agreement if 10 or more managers vote in favor of this change prior to the next league restart
e. SBDL rules can be changed at any time by the commissioner if needed and/or with consent of the majority of the league managers. If rules changes are needed, the commissioner will post these changes in advance in league mail and on the SBDL discussion thread on the Strat-o-matic message board
