The defense was not evident in his brief career with the Cardinals. He had a bum arm and will always be remembered for one memorable play in particular. He climbed up on an outfield fence to try to snag a "home run" ball and the ball fell in front of the fence 10 feet or so and bounced over for a ground rule double. It was hilarious!!!
To say he is only remember for one horrible play is not fair or correct. I am a bit surprised that he was issued a ATG9 card since he didn't play in the 1880s.
