ATG ratings file

PostSat Sep 02, 2023 1:42 am

Hi all. With Diamond Dope seemingly on its last legs and the new card batch out, I thought I'd share my spreadsheet containing all the card chances and ratings for ATG.

A few advantages this file has over DD:
Scraped directly from the cards so no data entry errors and no need to wait for new cards to be manually inputted
Includes gbA chances and power ratings
If you filter the far right column you can see just the new cards

Enjoy~

Max,

Did you write your own script to visually "scrape" the cards, or did you use a specfic program? I have access to a few visual editors and AI tools that I thought about playing around with to do something similar. I do already have a database, but it doesn't have doubles, triples, and singles only TB's, hits, and HR's, and that other information can be useful at times.

Also as noted by Marc in one of his threads the different types of outs can have different RC values so at one time I was debating trying to add that level of detail to my records and play with that as well, so reading the cards into a database is still hanging on the might do someday list.

I use Parsehub for all my scraping, I've tried several other apps but it's the only one I've gotten to work.

The different out types do have slightly different run values but not large enough to make me care about tracking them (gbA being the obvious exception). I believe barrmorris has shared a spreadsheet before that does break down the different outs.

Max - Thanks for sharing. That is extremly generous of you.

I've always been puzzled why Strat does not sell the ratings disk for historical seasons (other than what seems to be random or more recent seasons). Make it available to all so there is a level playing field.

I didn't get into ATG until I figured out how to get at least most of the data from Diamond Dope. Also, although I like the Mystery Card concept, I don't play it because I don't have the ratings data. I'd guess that those that do well in that format have similarly scraped the data from the cards for those sets. Nothing wrong with that, I'm just not willing to invest that amount of time into it.

That's great. Appreciate the information.

I don't understand the process of scraping. Does it correct for the printing errors that were common in the 1985 cards?

Here's what I have. It includes almost all card sets including Mystery. Power and clutch are not populated for some sets and it doesn't fix some of the errors in 1985 cards. I use programs written in Python to gather this data.

Max & Barr

Thank you so much for your generosity sharing the scraped data. As a number cruncher, without programming knowledge, this is immensely valued data. I have been using Diamond Dope, which is great, but it has some obvious holes.

Thanks, again. You guys are my Eternal Heroes!

Scraping is just using an app to get text from the web into a spreadsheet or database. For the card scraping my app just spits out the url in column A and the card text in column B. Then I have to heavily massage the card text within Excel to get the actual chances data.

The 1985 errors have been corrected manually once I learned about them.

You're very welcome, you were the reason I took the initiative. The game needs to keep adding new players after all, and lord knows we can't rely on Strat for that.

The fact that they're selling them at all for the Windows game is ridiculous. A modern game would simply include this data as part of the game to where you could easily export various CSVs directly from the software. You're already paying $50 for one season after all. The transparent game engine is the decisive thing that sets Strat apart from the much more feature-rich OOTP, yet they gouge you an extra $20 if you want to do something as basic as evaluate the cards. Almost as embarrassing for them as charging $30 for the ability to customize ballpark photos.
